Whatever side of the political fence you are, most people would agree that Bob Hawke was one of our best ever PM's both for his economic and social policies as well as his ability to communicate with the common person and respond to the mood of the nation. His classic utterence in the wake of the Americas cup win "any boss who sacks his worker for not turning up today is a bum" captured the celebrations perfectly. He was a much better statesmen than any of the muppets walking around today in hard hats and Hi Vis jackets trying to pretend they are interested in people. RIP Mr Hawke.

Yep...I wasn't a huge fan at the time but now history shows he did some very good things for the nation and will be remembered as a visionary and loyal servant of Australia with a bit of larrikin about him. RIP Bob

Bloody hell, RIP Bob. I was always a huge fan of him and voted for him. He was one of the few brilliant PMs and I still admired him when my allegiances changed.

Fine tributes to Bob Hawke from all previous posters.
Bizarrely, late last year Bob said he wouldn't live to see the next Federal election - he fell just two days short!
I always enjoyed seeing Hawkey on TV skolling a beer at the annual SCG Test.

If you could choose a PM to have a few beers with it’d be him, hands down.
Souths supporter wasn’t he?
