Said it for a while this country can’t afford two national carriers so am looking for other potential shareholders to join me in buying the ABC.

As majority shareholder I’ll be the chairman, so the order of business at our first board meeting will be:

1. To sack that idiot james mchale.
2. Get the ballerina they occasionally have on to read the news.
3. Get rid of channels 22, 24 and the radio ones.
4. Get some balanced presenters and reformat programmes like Q and A, Etc.
5. Get rid of all the left wing, socialist, hippie content.
6. Keep and expand good Australian programmes.
7. Cameras at all WAFL grounds and have a programme like The Winners.

What your ongoing financial plan to fund the ABC as my understanding is it runs as a loss?

You really shouldn't take any notice of Paul Murray, Chris Kenny et al who are motivated by self-interest. Nor should you take any notice of Tony "no cuts to the ABC or SBS" Abbott. I can recall watching such left wingers as Andrew Bolt and Piers Akerman on the ABC's Insiders programmers.

Was it Tony Abbott that banned his Government's Ministers from appearing on Q&A?

Apparently the Young Liberals are calling for the full privatisation of the ABC, except for services into regional areas. And backed by their federal council, which I'm not sure will be binding? The communications minister said it was not government policy to privatise the broadcaster.
I like points 2 through to 7.
Point 3. If channel 22 goes, Shaun the Sheep will need saving and moved to channel 2.
Point 5.That's fine, And expand Rage.
Point 6. With too many actors/ actresses out of work, more good Australian programmes would be most desirable.
And point 7. That's the way to go.

A few of the federal pollies have publicly said 'no' and 'never'.
Is interesting to note that no-one actually spoke against the proposal after the council passed the motion.
We all know what happened after a previous politician said, "never ever"!

Would never come close to breaking even, has tiny audience and a massive 1 Billion Tax Payer funded budget.

I don't think it needs to be sold off what it needs to is get back to its basic core business and a fraction of the cost.

1. Get rid of the 24 News Channel
2. Get Rid of the other TV Stations, they only need 1 as they did previously.
3. Cut the Radio Stations down to two in each state , a local, 720 and a national
4. With the huge funds available from the smaller ops get back to some sports coverage
5. Get back to some decent UK comedy and drama like they had in the 70s and 80s.
6. Down size the online presence, the ABC is a Broadcaster not a Newspaper Publisher

Bazza on what radio station would parliament be broadcast on? With respect to one tv station do you want to bring back the test pattern as well?

Also, what media do you recommend in Bazza's world one would be able to go to to find out the facts that don't fit into the Murdoch media and shock jock agenda?

The test pattern would probably be a popular TV station with the young liberals as it would probably be consistent with their intellectual capacities. As long as the test pattern wasnt on the left hand side of the screen of course.

Parliament could be easily live streamed on the Parliament Website complete with webcam, given about 12 people nationally watch it I reckon the net work would hold up no issues, radio broadcasting of parliament might of been all the go in 1950 but its about 40 years passed its use by date.

As for your gratuitous and ridiculous comment about the test pattern, isn't it interesting in the 80s Ch 2 could broadcast a WAFL Match, have a 1 hour WAFL highlights game with 4 games covered and have an hour of VFL each week, AND have time for a Test Pattern after 10.30pm...

One 24 hr TV channel is all the ABC needs....you could even play Parliament Question time at 3am!
