What an abysmal last day and a half by WA to surrender an outright win to SA Redbacks. Credit to the Redbacks for playing attacking cricket throughout when they could have gone into their shells and gone for a draw, but I cannot understand how a team can pile up 7 - 514 in their first dig and then get skittled on the same pitch a day later for 173. Points to a lack of discipline from the WA batsmen and the bowling attack is a bit pedestrian without NCN and Berendorff.
Well done to Jake Weatherald who scored a century in both innings and is certainly one to watch for future Australian selection. For Justin Langer it will be back to the drawing board.

mikeh: you predictted that it would happen last week so well done you. As you know I think they are at least two batsmen short of having a good side. Why was Wells not pickked for this game? He at least showed a bit of spunk against NSW, being the last dismissed. It is going to be a bloody long season.

I believe his father passed away. Somethings bigger than a game of cricket. RIP

With the selection of Marsh and Bancroft in the test side, WA have now lost their only two genuine specialist batsmen for next weeks game against Queensland. So who opens for the Warriors in this match?? Perhaps a hasty recall for Michael Klinger from Bangladesh?

I wouldnt mind seeing some of the young blokes in grade cricket getting a crack at it Mike (Hinchcliffe, Phillipe, David etc) but it will be more than likely Wells & Inglis (if fit) that will replace Bangers & Marsh!

Yes those young guys certainly did well against the England team a few weeks back. Phillipe is an opener so maybe they could slot him in as one of the top 2 along with Wells. Then

Cartwright
Marsh
Stoinis (if available) or Bosisto
Turner
Inglis (if fit)
Richardson
Moody
Behrendorf
Mackin
Holder 12th

We are missing Ashton Agar and Sam Whiteman who bring a lot of class and balance to the team. Think I heard that Whitemans injury was long term, not sure when Agar is returning

WA only just survived (down to the last over of the day) a 3rd straight outright loss this arvo at the WACA thanks mainly to a 100 run 9th wicket partnership between Ashton Turner (101no) & an injured Jason Behrendorff (39no) plus a 5 wicket haul to young quick Matt Kelly.
Good to see Mitch Marsh is back bowling again as he chimed in with a couple of wickets in the Qld 2nd innings but we are still a long way off ending that near 20 year Sheffield Shield drought!
