Good to see (but not surprising) that the "newer" Aussies are dominating the field.

But who is the dopey "reporter" from TT?

Can we put a levy on every pie sold in Western Australia and make it GST free?. If we can get a bigger piece of the "pie" than the eastern states we might be able put a dent in the states defecit.

I'm a bit dubious about these awards. There is a Chinese restaurant up the road from my joint that's won all these Golden Plate awards, I've tried about 4 different dishes from there and I'm stuffed if I know how they've won these awards.

A pie shop south of Mandurah is supposed to be an award winning bakery for their pies. The only thing I found remarkable about them was the price, about $7 to $10 a pie. :woohoo:
Get on your bike.

The Vietnamese have been baking ever since they were colonised by the French, they learnt from the best, its not a traditional trade for them but the Vietnamese are unique in that the had a lot of French influence, hence they can make pastries and bread.

How does having had alot of French influence make Vietnam unique? Their neighbours have French influence too and so do many other countries all over the globe.

Its fairly obvious I would of thought, French Cochin China including Vietnam Cambodia and Lao, Vietnam being the main French Colonial Cities being Vietnamese Hanoi and Saigon. Colonials demanded French style Patisseries so taught the locals how, the tradition stayed on. Go to British Asian Colonies they don't produce the same sort of food.
Other French Colonies like Morocco also have this tradition, but Vietnam is unique in our region, and also happens to be a mob that came here in droves post Vietnam War, and one of the things they were good at was baking and we like baked goods..hence they do well.
