I can see that it will also resonate with most of you strong secessionists, as January 26 is all about bloody NSW. :)

100% agree with this.

We did not become a country until Jan 1st, celebrating 26th Jan is incorrect and makes fools of us all (outside of NSW).

On that note, May 9 anybody?

I'm not sure that's such a good idea AR given Oz Day is about all of us celebrating what we have together and as one rather than separate Days which would surely be even more divisive.

Reason for, rather than against, I would have thought.

It would cut down on the number of flag-toting utes hooning around the suburbs, particularly in the vicinity of the South Perth foreshore.

And if some are unhappy with Australia Day being recognized on the 26th, makes one wonder why they'd like it on another date?

BC -- good point on setting up a 'Mabo Day' , it would be divisive. I meant well.

jack: I know what you mean about the flag waving -- I have never celebratted Austrslia Day, but I have always defended it from the wreckers. I don't even have an Aussie flag, I have a West aussie flag and ithe imperial flag.

Shark 58: Yep, you certainly have me betean, not by much though; I might get myself an Aussie flag to catch up. By the way, I agree with you about the Dutch and their empire -- they could be nasty buggers -- wether it be in South Africa, Indonesia, or North America. It was Holland which introduced black slavery into North America/New York colony.
