Obviously it's going to be tough for him to come back from this but did he get off light? It is blatant cheating. How does what he's done compare to the Essendon injection program and Warner and Bancroft cheating? In those two latter examples those involved basically copped 1 year bans. When you put it in that context he's copped a much stiffer penalty.

Actually Dank and I think the Weapon were banned for life.

I seem to remember a trainer in Perth as a kid back in the 80s caught with a jigger getting 10 years to life....seems Weir has got off very lightly in comparison tho typical of RV!

I think the fact he chose not to contest the charges is fairly damming evidence.

It will be interesting to see if police charges happen. If they find that video that is rumoured to be doing the rounds of one of the horses he trains being zapped while on a treadmill it could lead to bigger issues for Mr Weir

Got off easy by pleading guilty & accepting 4 yrs ban. The prick needs to be charged for cruelty to horse as no one keeps a jigger at home without the thought of using it. Should be in jail instead of walking freely around (but not at race meetings. Some big names in Victoria to tarnish the industry include Moody & Smerdon.. Obviously many more not caught. Owners lose out as do us mug punters.

So what do you consider to be an appropriate jail sentence?

agree 4 years easy option. Wonder if he knew he was gone, hence the huilty plea...plus i wonder with the phone tapping if there wasnt fruad charges had he pleaseded not guilty. Greed again captures another victim

He has damaged a billion dollar industry. Causing horses not to run on their ability means no one will trust the industry. This could affect the Spring carnival & overseas visitors.
He has deceived & probably defrauded owners & punters included me.

Sure, don't necessarily disagree. I used to punt a fair bit, not so much now, and punters need to be protected from themselves. Because fair dinkum, what punter has never thought this type of conduct has/does ever taken place?

I had a quadrella late last year at Flemington when Malibu Style won at 25/1. Got the running double for over $120 BUT missed the quadrella whe in the 3rd leg when the Weir hors (9/4 fav) wilted down the straight to miss a place & got the last winner.
Weir's horse started fav two weeks later & bolted in over the same distance.
