We are about to hook up on the HFC NBN System, just wondering if anyone has this set up and how it has been?

Bazza my mother lives in Ballajura..The Nbn people fitted an electronic smart dialer for free. And the Nbn to the front footpath. Then the telstra people took over after that and connected the rest of it.
Telstra TV is a small box that runs your whole Tv + your home telephone.
The package was all your free to air tv stations.Netfilx and Foxtel Go.The FG basic setup is one of there 3 packages. You can have the entertainment package as basic then +sport or movies or documentarys....$80 a month..Most people data package+phone rental normally costs around that a month already..
Was told by someone that knows more than me.You see thoes Green Nbn square boxes everywhere now .There a couple of hundred metres apart. The closer you are to thoes green boxes the faster your Nbn will be apparently??

You'll find a shedload of info about HFC here:

GTR - the NBN green boxes are for fibre-to-the-node (FTTN)......... a different delivery system to HFC.

But you are correct in your understanding that the closer you are to the node, the better speeds you should get. That is why this clusterfuuck of a NBN is colloquially known as "node lotto".

There are now 7 different delivery systems under the NBN umbrella:
- fibre to the premises (FTTP) for the lotto winners
- fibre to the basement (FTTB) for multi-unit dwellings
- fibre to the curb (FTTC)
- fibre to the node (FTTN)
- HFC
- satellite (Skymuster)
- wireless

Jack does FTTN plug into the existing copper network.

Sort of.

With FTTP, as the name suggests, the fibre runs all the way from the exchange (known as Point of Intersection, or POI) to your home or business.

With FTTN, the fibre runs from the POI to the green box (node), and then is connected to your home through your old telephone copper wire (via the pillar, which is the grey, torpedo shaped container you see on many street corners, and which contains your copper phone line).

Mate there is no copper involved in the HFC connection, it is all done via Foxtel or Optus TV Cables, this system as been held up for at least 1 year due to technical issues, which apparently have now bee solved, except for those with Optus Cable ( none in WA apparently ) who will be getting FTTC connections for free.

If you are on Satellite then the NBN will have nothing to do with your foxtel, its only if your area is cable..

So you will be on copper FTTN.
