BC wrote: ABS has reported union membership has fallen again in the last 2 years to 17% of the full time workforce. Median wages has risen by 4.6% over the last 12 months which is better than inflation. Given those numbers, how is the Labor Party so beholding to union heavyweights when it seems unions have now become irrelevant?

Another political topic that not created by me: didn't BH articulate this was a footy forum?

Speaking to the topic: Labor leads 55-45 2pp in the latest MURDOCH The Australian Newspoll so those who had a pay cut because of the cutting of penalty rates will get that pay re-instated. A party that was formed by workers, supporting workers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A major setback for small business. Typical attitude of a bludging public servant with no appreciation of how tough it is running a small business. We will be able to thank Labor for all the lights out and doors shut and the government scratches it's numb scull wondering why tourists won't come here?

It has been demonstrated that increasing the take-home pay of lower paid workers actually has a positive impact to the economy because those employees are able to spend more.

I hope you don't shake your head and cuss when you're waiting for the only person working behind the counter at Bakers Delight dying for your favourite cream bun Swannie. The boss can't afford to hire two girls @ $34 an hour. She needs to sell 12 loaves of bread an hour @ $3 a loaf just to pay her wages. Actually probably needs to sell another loaf or 2 per hour to pay for her workers comp, annual leave and super.
Get on your bike.

Unions have only themselves to blame for over the top wages and conditions.
Remember the waterside dispute. Container movement increased by 300% after JH and Corrigan sorted out the union thugs.

As opposed to what the banks have been doing and let's not forget that Morrison voted against a RC into the banks many, many times.

So container movements improved from the pre-dispute average of 17.something per hour to over 50/hour.

When the world average was only 25/hour.

Amazing.

Also remember the huge improvement in the mining industry when Rio took on the unions in the early 90’s. Productivity and wages have never looked back.
