Interesting that Josh Frydenberg thinks that there are no Federal ramifications in the Victorian state election.

42 watched at bit on Sky +listened a bit on ABC Radio.
Andrews had a policy of 25 billion on infrastructure spending.Schools,Hospitals, roads, rail, bridges, fire+police stations.
The LNP ran on a law and order platform and not much else.
Don't know how much influence the Feds have had on this election. But looks like the state Lnp failed on policy, lack of.

Watched mainly the ABC coverage and swapped over to Sky News a few times. What the Labor representatives on both channels said was that the focus of Labor's campaign was on Morrison et al; so one can imagine that there are Federal ramifications.

What the result shows and hopefully will continue to occur in the NSW and federal elections next year is a complete repudiation of base, racist politics. The scare campaign around race in terms of Victorians were too scared to go out was rejected comprehensively.

What "Socialism" would that be?

swan 42: what would you call state intervention in the economy and trying to re-build Vic's Tafe system? Unless, of course, you have turned over a Stalinist leaf in all the excitement, Swan 42, in which case, you would regard him as Unsocialist?

I would like to see a bit more use of the terms 'Socialist' or Tory/liberal, Swan 42, instead of that utterly meaningless term 'progressive' Turnbull tried to force on the country. It is a stupid Americanism which bears no relationship at all to Australia's past, present, or future. Even in America, the term, properly applied is relevant only to the first Roosevelt.

Victorian Liberals focus in concert with their Federal colleagues was on supposed law and order (and veiled terrorism and security base, race politics) compared to the Labor Party focus of infrastructure such as removal of level crossings. As you mentioned the re-building of TAFE is something that Victorians have embraced.

As an example of the Liberals attempt to exploit the recent incident in Bourke Street Matthew Guy suggested that the bail rules should be changed. The effect of that change would mean that people charged with a minor traffic infraction would be gaoled. M Guy also failed to acknowledge that the police did not oppose bail being granted to the person involved in the Bourke Street incident.

The lesson to be learned, but won't be, for the Liberals is that base, racist point scoring will be repudiated and what Australians want is action on climate change as a matter of urgency.

Socialism - a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

Funny I did not see much of this doctrine in the ALP campaign but more of a fix stuff, build stuff and other stuff that obviously resonated with the VFL voting public.

The other side ran a reactionary campaign that in many ways fed off the strumpet ideology of migrant/refugee bashing stemming from law and order.

The fundamental thing is that one side has lost its brains and is reactionary and the other is looking at other stuff, trouble is that a federal level is that it will get the ALP into power but with Bill Shortening at the helm we could still end up in the poo!
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended
