In any case, I would not remove Shorten from the leadership whatever the results; he is still in front nationally as well. Remmber the lazy liberal sods aren't even botherring to contest the seats in our state.

Just had a look on the ABC election results. Hard to work out the winners and losers.Mayo a loss for the LNP.And in WA the Greens have struggled even with no LNP candidates. Greens are on the nose all over Australia. To many froot loops in there party lol.

gtr good analysis: one consistent theme was that the government's vote declinned in all seats.

Howard 04 and Rudd 07 had primary votes in the mid to low 40's.There both around 38% now. There
Poll tonight was around 35%.They will get smashed in a federal election at that %.Greens where around 12% in the Bob Brown days. There lucky to be above 8% and the Nationals less than that.Unless one of the major party's melt don't think we will see full control of the senate like 1977++2004 for decades to come.

The most clear result of the by-election results was it was an unmitigated disaster for Malcolm Turnbull and the Liberal Party. Apparently the new "strategy" for Mayo is that it was a two election strategy. That is establish a profile in the by-election and win the general election. If you ignore the obvious name recogntion of the surname Downer, one could reasonably ask why the Liberal Party would not have used that strategy in Perth given that they received more first votes than Labor in the 2016 election?

They got absolutely slaughtered in Mayo. One Nation received around 15% of the first voted, directed their preferences to the LNP in Longman and got soundly beaten. In Braddon in the same electoral boundaries as used for the Tasmanian State election where they received over 50% of the primary votes the Liberals could not win.

And in Fremanatle and Perth the Liberal Party did not receive A SINGLE legitimate vote.

What a shock that Bazza et al have NOT made any comments post the by-election results. It is very difficult to to defend the indefensible.

If one listened to Christopher Pyne, Alexander Downer, Malcolm Turnbull you would think that 78 rpm records are coming back. Alexander Downer: "Georgina Downer was a great candidate" who did as "expected" with a 10% swing against her. And the ultimate hypocrisy of a former Howard Minister complaining about social media abuse given what the Howard Minister did with respect to playing the race card: vis a vis "children overboard" or Tampa.

For those who question whether Murdoch press including Sky News are ACTIVELY supporting the Turnbull Government. On the Sky News programme, Kenny on Sunday, one of his guests, Renee Viellaris, the National Political Editor of the Courier-Mail, kept referring to the Liberal Party as WE ; so much for unbiased reporting in Murdoch papers.
