Wow the protestors are really out in force today, despite losing the last legal challenge.

it never ceases to amaze me how everyone is expected to respect the umpires decision except the left wing rebel rousing rent a crowd. if the Courts had gone against the government you could imagine the hue and cry if they went ahead and built Roe 8 anyway.

Any party elected into government is expected to govern. The libs have had Roe as a policy for many many years and its only due to the endless court cases by an obviously very well funded mob of left wing tree huggers that the project is not already 50%+ completed. You cant have governments not making decisions on the basis of what may or may not happen in a couple of months time. There is a very big but very quiet silent majority out there that will decide the election and despite what many lefties think, it's going to go right down to the wire.

Question for that rent a crowd, how do they get that many protesters on a work day.

Here is a way to fix this issue. The court has spoken, its time for the cops to move in and take these people away and charge them.

If any of the people charged are relying on new start payments from Centrelink then maybe hit them in the pocket and suspend them from benefits for a period of time because they were not out looking for work like they are supposed to, they are causing trouble in the community and behaving in such a way that important resources like police cant be on the street policing, they have to be here dealing with people that have nothing better to do.

That might make a few of them think of something better to do before they turn up

Im strongly against Roe 8 ,for all sorts of reasons, Im not sure if the protestors are really doing the right thing, but then again if they slow work up I guess that is what they are trying to do, taking into account the election is now just two months away and Mc Gowan will can it, tbh Barnett pushing on with it with just a handful of weeks to go in power ( potentially ) is a bit bonkers, but then its all politics, he doing it to secure the liberal seats in Melville and marginal Bicton, so that's the method in his madness. There are zero votes in the opponents views, local area is already strongly ALP and Cottesloe also strongly against ( my electorate ) has a big enough buffer not to care.

I agree with SS that this policy has been on the Libs radar for ages and was held up by legal action around the validity of the environmental approval process then High Court challenges etc. The state government won't and shouldn't hold up implementing policy based on what might happen in an election some months away. also I'd be very surprised if sneakers canned the whole thing if Labor do get in. that statement smacks of appeasing the vocal minority...then there's the real risk of losing federal funding...the government has made a decision and if some don't like it, they can lodge a protest vote in 3 months time or go live elsewhere.

I'd also be very surprised if even 10% of these clowns had ever been there before the protest started given there's representatives from the Socialist Alliance, Socialist Alternative, some from the anti-fracking and shark culling movements...aboriginal activists and so on...arrest the bloody lot and have a Magistrate with balls actually start putting them in the bin for a period to cool off.

Not sure about vocal minority bit BC, the residents from Bibra Lake to Cottesloe are pretty much against it. If you asked the Freo residents I reckon supporters would be few and far between, Sneakers wont be baking down on commitment to can it once he made it, if he did - never mind caving into a vocal mob he would look weak as piss on his first major commitment test.

Big ears canned a far bigger road in Vic.

When you can unite people from as a diverse demographic from Cottesloe to Cooby then you have a unique case.

As for protests go - don't ever forget the Barracks Arch, it stands as a symbol of the people of the state to protest against bad decisions particularly on road building.

Cottesloe and Mosman Park will be impacted as Heavy Freight will be running down Curtin Ave as a rat run short cut once the link is complete.
