With all the new rules this season (9 in total) it will be interesting to see how the newly branded Perth Football League teams and umpires adapt in the lead up to round 1.

I am guessing there will be a big demand for panel umpires to be provided for scratch matches as you would assume they have had training on the new rules implementation. Games with club umpires may struggle if they haven't had any training on the rule changes.

Not sure how reserves and the grades below C1 will cope with administering the 6 6 6 zoning as I believe boundary umpires are required to assist the field umpires (2 only below A league) in ensuring the players are in their zones and don't cross the 50m line early.

An already hard job for the umpires just got harder. Lots of teething problems methinks but should sort itself out in time.

Agree Major.

Not sure why we need to follow suit, as the clubs already supplying there own boundary umpires and umpires have another element to compound a already difficult job.

Major, Number7,
Pls, about the only thing the WAAFL/PFL have got right recently, is the need for a point system and a umpire overhaul.
The comp. Is in some real need of credibility...and thats coming from a club that knows!

Alas there is some abnormalities (which are really hard to figure why) in points proposal.
Can only hope they get resolved before season commences?

Stinker I take what you mean by an umpire over haul to be including C2 to C4 league field umps being managed by the panel coaches and appointed to neutral games in the main?

So Major you didnt go to the monday meeting and see all 'those' club umpires being instructed in the new rules.
They certainly wont get much help on match day from goals and boundary.
The new rules 666, back to the 9, in the back etc are not hard to enforce.
How did umpiring get so bad in the lower grades, not a lot of care factor from the seinor purple circle.

I can see some issues with the new in the back interpretation. This will be a real grey area and will cause some issues in my opinion.

Regarding scratch matches I know Ballajura are playing Wanneroo in Bullsbrook tomorrow.

I think the rule around 45 seconds to get off the ground/reset into positions after a goal is kicked will be interesting to watch. Im not sure it will be policed that hard in grades where association umpires are not involved, but I can see that one rearing its head in a final somewhere......

@the major you appear to be a panel umpire what are your thoughts on the new rules. For myself personally from what ive seen for the afl i like the starting positions but the 50m rules will be a shambles at community level.
