Falcons’ 100 per cent committed to the good of the WAFL

18/Oct/2012

By Mark Donaldson, Joondalup Weekender

AS an announcement on an Eagles and Dockers WAFL alignment draws closer, West Perth officials moved to reinforce the Falcons’ commitment to the local district.

West Perth was one of the first teams rumoured to be in alignment talks with West Coast, but club bosses emphatically denied any discussions had taken place.

Falcons president Raponi said he did not know what had sparked the rumours.

“Let me tell you, WPFC have never had a conversation with the West Coast Eagles or the Western Australian Football Commission regarding any such action,” he said.

“There has never even been a board discussion on the subject.”

Raponi remained firm in his view that if any change to WAFL club structure was to be considered, then it had to be for the good of the league.

He said it was yet to be proven this new approach, heavily rumoured to involve East Perth (West Coast) and Peel (Fremantle), would be of benefit.

“We understand the two AFL clubs have a particular view on what they require to improve,” he said.

“We don’t necessarily agree with the view, but we respect it none the less.”

Raponi said West Perth remained “100 per cent committed” to developing its metropolitan and country districts.

“We want to give as many young footballers as possible from Whitfords to Wanneroo to Yanchep in the city and the young men from wider Wheatbelt towns, the opportunity to play for the West Perth Football Club,” he said.

“We want these young men to play AFL and we believe WPFC and our junior district clubs have an outstanding track record in this field.”

He pointed to recent draftees such as Sydney’s Jordan Lockyer, West Coast’s Mark LeCras and Jack Darling and brothers Stephen and Bradley Hill at Fremantle and Hawthorn as proof of the development program’s success.

Falcons District join forces with the WACA

The West Perth Football District and WACA cricket have formed a partnership to provide a combined AFL and cricket after-school super clinic to children aged 5-8 years in the Neerabup Districts in term 4, 2012.

The clinic will run for an hour every Tuesday at Houghton Reserve on Houghton Rd, Carramar, (Carramar Primary School Oval) from 30th of October to the 4th of December.

Anyone from surrounding schools can attend the clinics, and they will start at 3.20pm and finish at 4.30pm

“The clinics are a great opportunity for children to experience a combination of sports, keep active, and learn new skills from specialised coaches”, said West Perth Emerging Markets Development Officer, Scott Minchin.

Children attending the sessions will spend half an hour developing their cricket skills from specialised WACA staff, and half an hour developing their football skills from West Perth Falcons staff, as well as participating in activities that combine the two sports.

If numbers allow, girls and boys will be separated into a specialised program.

The cost will be $20 for a 6 week coaching program, and children will also receive Falcons football and WACA cricket giveaways.

The clinics will also aim to promote the nearby emerging clubs in the Neerabup Districts Football Club (Rangers), and the proposed Neerabup Districts Cricket Club.

The West Perth Football District is excited to form this partnership, and we have no doubt it will reap benefits for the Neerabup Districts.

MOvember craze hits the West Perth Football Club in a bid to change the face of men's health

Falcons staff are getting behind the "MOVEMBER" cause to raise awareness for Men's Health.

Falcons District Manager Andrew Ridley, West Perth's new Football Manager Jamie Ball and Emerging Markets Development Officer Scott Minchin have joined the cause, downed the razor (at least for the upper lip) and are trying to raise funds. That's right it's Movember and time to focus on men's health.

To show their commitment, Andrew, Jamie and Scott are donating their faces to the cause by growing a moustache for the entire month of November, they need your support.

No doubt their Mo's will spark conversations, and no doubt generate some laughs; all in the name of raising vital awareness and funds for prostate cancer and male mental health.

Why are the Falcons staff so passionate about men's health?

1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
This year 20,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed
1 in 8 men will experience depression in their lifetime

I'm asking you to support my Movember efforts by making a donation by either:

Donating online at: mobro.co/andrewridley
Writing a cheque payable to 'Movember', referencing my Registration ID: 66482 and mailing it to: Movember, PO Box 60, East Melbourne, VIC, 8002

Thank you in advance for supporting our staff efforts to change the face of men's health.

For more information contact Andrew Ridley, Jamie Ball or Scott Minchin on 9300-3611
