From what I heard, West Perth were well and truly in the match at ½ time. Apparently only being 16 points down. Which is not a big differential. Swans powered on in the final term. Is interesting to note Swans only had 5 more Ball Disposals for the match. Hopefully todays result blows the cobwebs off. More importantly the result being a percentage booster from 88 to 109 point something percent.

Leedy I don't bag your team very often at all, mostly a comment abt the boy and nelson. I comment abt the club as you do abt EP.

Leedy, not sure what you mean about me being a "WP basher" mate.... TBH not sure what I have posted about WP for you to even say that......at present EF fans are in no position to bash any other club bar their own....LOL

Now THAT was a performance worth travelling 25 km up Mitchell Freeway to have a look at. Finally Swans played 4 quarters of hard running footy. For the first time this season, they looked totally switched on from the start of the match and had a goal from the very first clearance. This set the pattern for the day and our midfield was on top for all but a few short periods during the game. Our ball movement was clean and fast and our tackling and pressure were at a very high level.

We managed to get a break on them in the first quarter on a hot day and West Perth were forced to play catch up footy for the rest of the afternoon. 5 goals to 2 in the first term set the pattern and even though West Perth had a good patch towards the end of the 2nd quarter, we still had a 16 point lead at half time. The 3rd quarter was where Swans basically won the game, the trend all day was that we would start each quarter fast before WP pulled the score back somewhat and this is what happened in the 3rd term as well but this time Swans pulled away again to lead by 31 points at the final change.

The last term was just 2 tired teams playing out time however the West Perth supporter I was watching the game with reminded me of a match at Joondalup a few years back when Swans led by 26 points going into time on of the last quarter and the Falcons concocted an amazing fightback led by Luke Meadows to snatch a last minute victory. Guess what? West Perth bought the margin back yesterday to 26 points at the 15 minute mark! Luckily though lightning didn’t strike twice and Swans buried the game shortly afterwards.

It was a great team effort by the boys and I reckon everyone contributed to the effort in some sense. Gault was outstanding and probably just shaded Hampson as best on ground. There is no doubt that if George can play more games like he did today, he will make a massive difference to Swans fortunes this year, he has stacks of ability and can create opportunities that not many players can.

Gault and Hampson probably played themselves into the State team today as did Tony Notte who was his usual dependable self. With Glass-McCasker and Howard as well the defence looks in good shape.

There were so many other players to like though. Riggio played his best game of the season, Jesse Turner has been consistent all year, Cipro has improved greatly. Reidy added a bit of zip to the team ,the youngsters More and Grayden Wilson were highly involved. Warwick Wilson as well. There were some great contested marks in front of goals and around the ground from Gault, Kohlmann, Blakely and Noble. Payne is another who gives a whole hearted effort every week. Everybody who had a Swans jumper on contributed in some way to the win.

West Perth seemed to lack method and confidence, they did get a lot of possessions but they used many of them kicking backwards or sideways or overusing handballs in the backline. On the odd occasion they did go direct, they had some good forwards in Strijk and Lourey who rewarded them. They were unlucky to lose Nelson and Swans tagged Black to pretty good effect, so they lacked run and carry from their back half. Rudy linked up a few good passages of play but apart from that they were too easy for Swans to shut down.

Overall great to get the first win of the season and time to celebrate before returning to reality ( Subiaco) next weekend.

Talls players well and mids out ran West Perth.
Hampson Riggio Turner and Cipro all good and Gaulty a threat all day.
Younger players Reidy More and Wilson all contributed
Usual suspects for the Falcons were good - Black striky and lourey

A lot better performance yesterday by Swans MO and you could tell very early we had the right attitude with plenty of talk, gang tackling desperation and better ball use but we still cooked a few opportunities that you wont get away with against the likes of Subi who we have this week.
We have always had trouble winning up at Joondalup against WP who never lay down and yesterday was no different.
One thing that was noticeable after the game when the boys were singing the song was how many had obviously never played in a win for us as there was almost a 50/50 split with how many were in the circle copping the Gatorade shower.
Good win too by the Colts who had quite a number missing for the State 18s scratch matches vs SA in Adelaide over this weekend with a few lads making their debut at Colts level for us and a number getting their opportunity to impress with the likes of Wallrodt, Pasini, Daly, Trew, Grainger-Barras, Sears et al plus Garcia & Ireland from the seniors all missing.

Congratulations to the team on a good win. Always difficult defeating WP - anywhere. Pleasing aspects of the game were:

The performance of the young men; Chip, Wilson (x2), Reidy, Stephens, Daniels and O'Sullivan;

Blakely's all round performance - taps, kicks, handballs. His follow up to his own knocks is also very good;

Riggio's game. When he fires Swans usually win;

The tackling;

Turner's game - again. His upper body strength and the way he shrugs tackles makes the no. 29 on his back appropriate.

It has been a long time since Swans have had a strong marking forward line - Gault, Kohlmann and Noble. The second half last week showed what Swans' forward line can do, but with Gault thrown into the mix yesterday it was potent. Despite Noble not kicking a gaol for a fortnight I would persist with him, while Kohlmann began attracting a crowd yesterday resulting in freedom for the smaller SD forwards.

The only downer - and its only minor - is that when the ball hits the ground Payne is no longer quick enough to win the one-on-one, but otherwise his performance was outstanding.

Didn't make the trip up to Joondalup.But great to see a good away win after 3 narrow losses.It shows where a far better side to the one we fielded in 2016.Still yet to play Subi-Peel-West Coast +Claremont. So there's some tough games coming up.

A much improved performance where we decided to kick the ball even if there waasn't a lot on offer, at least it created contests where we did better than 50/50 rather than just play ring a ring a rosie until we lose the ball.
We won't get carried away, WP are bankrupt on and off the field and they are quickly heading for oblivion.
The swans supporters far out numbered the WP and if WP keep dishing up that rubbish their finances wont get any boost from people rocking up to watch.
Even in our darkest days our loyal base remained loyal.
Had a good look around the new West Perth premises and my only question is WHY. and why so grandiose.
Yes at Swans we would like better, but home is home and it is warm and comfortable.
Perhaps WP should have been grateful for what they had as a % from the takings off Venues West is better than zero.
Another consideration for WP is form a whole new club involving many of the sports that occupy the Arena,
Perhaps next year the WAFL team could be Joondalup Wolves.
