TOPIC: Swan Districts in the VFL up to 1990

AR I have attempted a Swans side from your criteria below-

BA: Holden, Hutton, Sartori
HB: Langsford, Rance, Kenny
CE: P.Narkle, Baker, M.Smith
HF: D.Holmes, G.Sidebottom, M.Richardson
FO: Beecroft, Beasley, Ugle
RU: A.Sidebottom, Neesham, Shine
INT: George, Williams, Caton, McDonald, Hoyer, Fogarty, S.Richardson, Cormack, Annersley, R.Latham.

BH -- thanks for that -- great side; all the more so because most of them played together. Did Sartori and Fogarty play for Carlton?

AR Sartori, Kenny, Shine & M.Smith all played at Carlton in the 1980s, Fogarty went to Geelong but don’t think he played much there in the end.

Jon Fogarty didnt get the chance to play in the VFL. He went to Geelong and took part in the pre season and practice games, but Swans wouldnt clear him.

Cheers mate I thought there may have been a background story to it as he was listed on Geelong's list in 86/87 but I couldnt remember him playing in the VFL for them.

Some terrific footballers there BH. Unlike ArkRoyal's Subi team that has stars from the 1930s, Swans didn't appear to contribute much to the VFL until the 1970s. Ralph Latham is an exception, playing well for Melbourne during the war when in the RAAF when there were open clearances

A bad oversight on my behalf SH missing Ralph, my father actually worked with him around 30 years ago before his retirement, I have now added him in.

BH: apparently, one whom was actually from Bassendean and got away from SD, was Dave Cuzens. He starred in the gold fields where he was signed by Richmond. He won their fairest and best twice. Excludding Rioli as a NTite, he is the only West Aussie to have done so. As you know, he later coached/played for Subi and played for EP.

the Richardson brothers, whom together would get SD a lot of points on my performance scale
