BH: 100 per cent correct. He also helped break long standing premeirship droughts at EF and SD. It is amazing the amount of bull-shit people swallow in this town in relation to the WC, Malthouse and the so-called superiority of Victorianism, Bease, as you know. IN 1988 and 1989, Todd actually finished above Malthouse on the VFL ladder and lost his job to him.

Mick Malthouse was a very lucky man, full stop.

Interesting to look back, isn't it.

I note that Alexander won 11 games (50%) in his only stint. The following year (1988), Todd also won 11 games - by some of the logic above, Alexander should have been retained.

And the following year (1989) the Eagles went backwards, winning only 7 games. Perhaps this is why Todd was sacked.

jack: they sacked him mid-season; after that they won five or six of their last games. The easiest thing to do was stick with Todd. The player whom caussed him the most trouble retirred at the end of the season anyway. Unless, of course you could get someone, such as, David Parkin, over to replace him -- a proven Victorian.

Since the 90’s if you take in games played for us and goals kicked I’d say Tim Geappen, Troy Ugle, Ashley Hansen and Tony Notte. Special mention to ‘The Gloveman’ Chris Maguire and Scott Cummings unfortunately they didn’t get to play too many games for us but they both still delivered on the scoreboard.
