PRESS RELEASE: SOUTH FREMANTLE FOOTBALL CLUB LAUNCHES

THE STEPHEN MICHAEL FOUNDATION

The South Fremantle Football Club is proud to announce the launch of the Stephen Michael Foundation. The Foundation’s objective is to open up opportunities for the youth and young adults in our community and the overall South Fremantle Football Club’s zone, to assist those regardless of colour, ethnic background or social circumstances. We will support them on their football journeys and give them the opportunity to grow as people as well as footballers.

South Fremantle CEO Tom Bottrell said “Stephen Michael is regarded by many as the best player in the club’s history. The fact that he is equally as-good-a person gives fantastic credibility to the Foundation and we are thankful Stephen has agreed to be involved”.

Club President Haydn Raitt added “We are also extremely appreciative of Simone, Barry and Tony’s pledge of financial support and this funding will greatly assist us in achieving our goals with the Foundation. We need to be more than a football club and work with the community to help the youth via great programs in sport and healthy development”.

South Fremantle Football Club is also pleased to announce the Stephen Michael Foundation’s first partnership; Fremantle College opens its doors in 2018 and the Stephen Michael Foundation will deliver a specialist football program for students ranging from years 7 to 12. Fremantle College will have a strong focus on attracting young male and female footballers and South Fremantle Football Club, via this Foundation, will be there to help them develop both as players and as people.

Good article in today's west where Michael urged the commission to respect the WAFL and its history.
Hopefully they take notice of someone who ranks up there as one the all time greats of west Australian football and this is a good initiative by South Fremantle.

I won't speak of the 1980 GF; but, apart from the GF wins, two of my favourite memories have involved matches against South Freo. Watching South Freo train at half time at Freo Oval and the S Michael train express from Freo Station to Success Hill Station match.

Fully endorse S Michael's comments about the WAFL history and well done to South Freo on their S Michael Foundation initiative.

I think it's a fantastic opportunity for young people around Fremantle to gain valuable resources maybe even opportunities when the new college opens the doors

Brilliant that we've got TI right in amongst it , bloody shame Maurie isn't here to see this - real big bloody shame , life is a bastard sometimes

Like Phil Narkle wish I had of seen more of this bloke play...vague distant memories as a 10yo kid...just a few games witnessed live...great initiative by the SFFC and a fantastic tribute to one of the mightiest to ever pull on a pair of boots

If you have a few hours I am sure PJ could wax lyrically about the Michael Boucher clashes.
