if a player is uncontracted then i'm not sure what can be done about it but maybe lifting the amount of compensation to the affected club will make aggressive recruiters a bit more reluctant.

A very simple solution would be to provide a weighting factor to provide a discincentive from the top clubs recruiting players from lower placed clubs.

E.g.

Using Subiaco and Perth as an example:

Subiaco 1st (1)
Perth 8th (

Weighting factor = (8-1) * 2 = 14

Player point = 12

If Subiaco were to recruit a 12 point player from Perth the actual player point's value would be 26 against Subiaco's points cap.
