All round good bloke and could play the game,had a booming left foot kick on him.
Played with Perth and West Perth.

I knew him and his family well having played all my junior footy with him and his 2 brothers at the Canning junior football club.

Taken to young at 59,RIP Doug.

Geez that is terrible news. I absolutely loved this bloke as a kid. I remember him kicking 6 goals in a quarter against Souths I think in 1981. He played in some truly awful Perth teams during his time but he was a quality player who could roost it alright. Very sad to hear of his passing.

He was a very classy player alright - knew where to find the footy & where the sticks were
Brother Wayne the Ruckman also played at Perth & later Swan Districts

He was a very dangerous forward for Perth and later WP in the 80s and as others have already noted he could kick a country mile on his trusty left boot.

Sad to hear, yes very young if it's not disrespectful to ask do you know the circumstances of his passing 30plus? He was a bright light in a dark period where we were copping some absolute floggings. Had a mighty left boot on him and his brother Wayne was a very handy ruckman who was just hitting his straps and signed on a form 4 with North Melbourne when he did his knee.

My condolences to the Simms family and thanks Doug Simms #30 for the memories. RIP

Sad news. One of the few opposition players I liked, and as a young bloke was over the moon when he crossed to West Perth.
