With the announcement that Mark McGowan's Labor is backing a Centre Of Excellence at Arena Joondalup it got me thinking. What structural changes would you make at Lathlain Oval.

Would you revamp the bar? Extend the bar and have glass windows to see the game? Render the grandstand? Put new seats in? Move the pigpen? Build a new past players room?

What would you like to see done?

My understanding was that there was a proposal for the existing grand stand to be demolished, leaving Lathlain hall as it is.

Then for a new facility to be built where the existing grand stand lies.

Whether it is still on the table or whether it's been shelved or not I'm not sure.

That would make a lot of sense. The function area is big and important to the clubs fund raising but the old grandstand is outdated and a modern facility would provide a much better viewing area for most spectators than the current set up. Also a bar behind glass where spectators can still see the game would bring in a few extra dollars.

Why change it, i like it as it is. Good veiwing and the grand stand is classic

I would have thought that Lathlain is a prime spot for doing the same thing they are doing at Claremont, especially with the under utilised area around the perimeter and the Carlisle Bowling Club site ready for development across the road. They could really do something smart with medium density housing, multi-purpose oval usage and a revamp of the grandstand and western side of the oval.

I thought there was something like this on the VP Council agenda a few years back but fell away due to disagreement over demolishing the existing grandstand and building a new one on the eastern side so we could all look directly into the sun on match days?

I Agree always good to watch footy at Lathlain. Carpark is handy (I suppose that would go if they develop the ground surroundings)
Still have seats around the boundry. Always enjoy a game at Lathlain.
Convenient central location better than the cut lunch job to get to Joondalup.
If it aint broke dont fix it.
