Yep will be interested to see what happens. Adam Pickering doesnt strike me as a "soft touch" though and I think he would not tolerate anybody putting themselves before the team. Maybe Hampson has earned a few credits from the fact that he has played pretty consistently for 8 years despite having a few significant injuries and he nursed his body through 17 out of 18 games last year when EF were being regularly thumped. Don't think that sounds like the behaviour of a Prima Donna... Time will tell I guess.

Those that have been around the place don't have many nice things to say about George- little respect for others and only cares about himself. Bit like he plays.

That's true, did anyone actually expect Hampson's version to be the same as Monaghan or that Hampson may put his hand up to any failings.
The views from Subi posters are striking, along with the fact that Perth weren't interested either and they are in as much need for talent as East Fremantle.

From a reliable source and Freeze already made a brief point on it, Hampson told Monaghan that he will do his own preseason and join the main club sessions in February due to his "knowing his own body". The seed for this was planted right from the outset when Monaghan rang Hampson on a number of occasions when he first took over the role and he never called back for days and then just sent a text saying to send his contract through to him and he will make a decision on what he does from that. This in a nut shell explains his character when $$$ will dictate before meeting the coach and listening to the new direction.

So George was his own man? That’s for non team sports, so I can fully understand the decision.

You can still be your own man from a physical preparation standpoint in a team sport situation - in fact that is the smart way to do it and adheres to the principle of 'Individualisation' often spoken about but not employed. But it is an Australian rules football culture (that is unfortunately engrained in the sport) that you cant be seen to be doing anything different to your team mates.
Take away the kind of person George is (I don't know him so cant comment) his attitude in regards to his conditioning requirement's is light years ahead of what the norm is now and I raised this very situation with the father of Physical Preparation in Australia (aka Strength & Conditioning) Ian King of King Sports International and one of the World leaders in the field for 40 years and innovators of numerous training concepts used all over the world just yesterday morning in an exclusive webinar with his student coaches and he has been preaching that athletes should be doing exactly what George has done more often than not to avoid injury (in a collaborative way) and in fact in other sports in other parts of the world this is not uncommon. This guy has coached in more sports with more athletes than anyone else on the planet, over 9 Olympic cycles (summer & winter) numerous medals of all colours and 2 Australian World cup rugby winning teams, Super 10 winning teams etc etc in a relatively young profession which has only gained ground in the last 40 years.
Kudos to East Fremantle's off field team of last year in successfully accommodating George and brick bats to Bill for seemingly pursuing an out dated dictatorial approach.
I am happy George is coming to Swans and look forward to him entering an embracing environment. And having heard Pickering all last season at breaks & feedback from players his approach is more aligned to George's - a Collaborative one. He also will not take any shit so there is a nice balance :)

Will be interesting to read Swandog's comments post "getting to know" George's character then....because pretty sure that is where the problem lies..... "George does what George wants".....you seem to think Bill was the only person having a problem with Hampson individually......do a poll of Hampson team mates in 12 - 24 months and come back to us......also pretty sure Swandog, Hampson played with and for the EFFC and not the other way round......as the old saying goes "an individual team will always beat a team of individuals"....can't blame Bill for aspiring for that.....kept him in good stead during his 10 years at WP......

Kudos to the off field team at East Fremantle for accommodating George? Therein lies the problem, on field the team comprehensively won the wooden spoon. And I hardly think George is 'light years' ahead of what is the norm now.
Not sure why you are bagging Bill anyway, would have thought you would have been thanking him. After all, you guys have pounced and got George before any other WAFL clubs lined up to grab him.. and in a coaching role to boot. Hope it works for both you and George.

And how would you know anything of what his team mates think from all the way over there in NZ?

Seriously SwanDog are you for real?.....LOL........are you telling me you actually think by living overseas, you would all of a sudden, magically, lose contact with folk you know in Perth and in my case connected to the EFFC?....living overseas isn't like that mate....trust me..makes those bonds a tad tighter.....plus social media is a godsend.....you might know your A&P fella....but from the looks of that comment..... nothing much else TBH....

Would that grapevine be from New Zealand by any chance?

Whatever vine that information is coming in from it took a long time to get to you, and anyway perhaps this wasn't one of the sessions that George (as a newly installed leader and assistant coach) was obligated to attend.
Maybe George was just accommodating himself with his light years ahead training methods.
