According to this morning's paper an ongoing stoush between the Fremantle Dockers and the Fremantle City Council over compensation has stymied the proposed redevelopment of Fremantle Oval.

At the conclusion of the article it was stated that "WA’s oldest rivals — East Fremantle and South Fremantle — share the ground and will create a WAFL centre of excellence under the $20 million redevelopment."

However I wasn't aware that the EFFC has formally committed to the ground sharing proposal albeit that it may be a forgone conclusion.

Just mind boggling the stunt these docker cretins are pulling, was talking to a former freo mayor saturday about the issue and he is certain the council will fight this legally as far as they can.

Re the EFFC and SFFC 20 mill deal, its all been agreed to only thing holding it up is the dockers.

One thing is for certain Bazza, both SFFC & EFFC and the WAFL in general will benefit with co-sharring Fremantle oval :)

Absolutely mate, its the best way to go all round, a game in Fremantle every week of the season, clubs tills and turnstiles ticking over every week, improved new facilities for members of both clubs, and lower shared overheads.

The sooner it happens the better I reckon......would also bring some spice back into derby matches and allowing players from each club to swap allegiances mid season in search of more opportunities.....financially it is a no brainer.....perhaps Freo want their womens team to take over Freo Oval and SF move into ATOM stadium instead

Yeah Mate, at the end of the day EF are just coming home, they technically were there just before SFFC , 1898 and South formed in 1901, and then stayed there for over 50 years as a shared ground, so its steeped in Derby history as a dual use ground.

Actually I wonder where the freo sheilas will be based, probably Cockburn - further away there better.

I reckon it's a great move for both clubs but haven't times changed. I couldn't imagine EF and SF sharing a ground during the 60's, 70's or even 80's....it would be carnage after a derby.

Agree that it will be a great thing for both clubs and the new layout will be terrific with the old stand being a much better spot to watch the game and more space and some grass banks on the outer. These sorts of venues need to be shared to make it viable, only 2 shared venues at the moment, Joondy and crabtown are too remote for anyone to share, so next cab off the rank could be the eastern suburbs teams in Perth & Swans ground sharing at a redeveloped Bogundean oval, so perth can get away from the clutches of the Weagles, but that now seems set in concrete.

Before Subi moved to Leederville we tried to get Claremont Council to support us sharing Cl oval with the Monts, should have been a no brainer but Council were too greedy at the time. Subi now have way too much invested at Leedo to consider a move anywhere.
