Here's a list of those from WA asked to go for a medical by an AFL club to get picked up in the mid-season rookie draft. It will be a bugger if Subi loses either but good luck to them anyway.

Ajang Ajang (East Perth)
Josh Deluca (Subiaco)
Oliver Eastland (Claremont)
Brady Grey (West Coast WAFL)
Jack Mayo (Subiaco)
Declan Mountford (Claremont)
Marlion Pickett (South Fremantle)
Jarvis Pina (Peel Thunder)

Josh Deluca (Subiaco) : taken by Carlton with pick 1.
Jack Mayo (Subiaco) : taken by St Kilda
Dillon O'Reilly (EF) : taken by Fremantle
Marlon Pickett (SF) : taken by Richmond

That's it all over. Well done to those boys. Bad luck to those WAFL clubs it has effected.

Not sure why we have picked up a key position player. It's not like anyone we've got is coming into retirement. I would have thought adding someone who can play in the midfield with a bit of pace is what we need.

Just asked this question on another thread but thought i had read somewhere that these players drafted may become available to their Wafl club if not required by the AFl club for the finals? Can anyone clarify / confirm this is true?

I just posted this on the Subi thread Jjim but will replicate it here...from the AFL website...

How will state league clubs be compensated for losing a player?

It's understood AFL clubs will be made to provide them with a reimbursement. That could include a payment of up to 50 percent of any sign-on bonus given to the player by their state league club.

The League has also moved to offset state league clubs' concerns by introducing a number of conditions.

A player drafted from a state league will not be asked to play against their original club unless all parties agreed. For example, should Williamstown defender Sam McLarty be selected by Carlton, he will not be allowed to represent the Blues' VFL-affiliated Northern Blues against Williamstown, unless the Seagulls approve.

State league players also have the ability to return to their original club to participate in finals if their AFL club's season is over.

Dillon O'Reilly was asked on 6PR tonight who he will play for if not selected to play for Fremantle? His answer was Peel.

Considering O'Reilly is a Freo player of course he will play for Peel...like all the other Freo players....be interesting what happens if Freo don't make the 8....and some how EF makes the 5 and Peel makes the 5...are EF in their rights to take O'Reilly back for the finals?....

I'm pretty sure West Coast came out and said a while ago that midseason draftees could play at their original club on game day each week if not required for AFL duties....not so for Freo apparently.

Another excellent article by John Townsend. I'm not sure why he is so maligned on here as I find him very supportive of the WAFL in general and can say he actually attends games because I've seen him on several occasions. His article a couple of years ago on Freo dropping players back to Peel for the 2016 GF was very insightful and on the money as well. Good work JT.
