This thread is about naughty defeats, defeats which looking back on them, were totally unacceptable. As a Subi man, there is one that has really annoyed me since I was a kid, and that was a loss to the tigers in 1983.

Cl kicked 37 goals to 11, but the context of the defeat has always got me.

This was the same Subiaco side which had got within 17 points of Cl earlier in the year and they had already suferred the disgrace of having had Peter Daniel sacked, but they still could not be botherred to get within less than 160 points that day. Totally unacceptable, even by the standards of a club that had been useless for decades.

Brian Fairclough, after he was made coach, actually acussed the players of acting in a way which threatened the continued existence of the club. For me, at least, those words were true that day at Claremont.

The stats from that match above for you AR courtesy of Waflfootyfacts!
Subi actually didnt have that bad a side in either many of those who took the field that day for the Lions made up the bulk of their 85/86 side but Claremont were a formidable side in that era especially at Tigerland.

BH: all true, especially about Cl being a good side, arguably they had more skill than SD of that year, but they lacked the football wherewithall in the finals.

As you said with aplomb, our 1983 side had talent which makes the performance that day disappointing. Even in 1982, with a weaker side we got within 6 to 8 goals of the 'monts' twice.

Mark Zanotti and Todd Breman were two whom debutted that year.
Dave Perry played a good game that day, so well done to him.

Some incredible stats racked up by the Tigers that day AR- Malaxos 45 disposals 2 goals, Goulding, Davidson, Blackwell, Mitchell etc fancy a Full Forward having 25 disposal in kicking 16.2!

Our 1981 GF loss was a shocker.

Was at this game in 1983 and was probably one of the reasons i went to work in the Kimberleys shortly after for a couple of years!!! Dave Perry was one player i had forgotten about who didnt play again after 1983. From his stats on Ric's site he played 28 games for 4 wins over 4 years which sums up the level of success we were having around that time. This all makes the current situation all the more sweeter for me.

FMD how long have you got? I could fill pages and pages on this.

A couple that spring to mind from 1981 just as the Demons were starting their diabolical descent to long-term mediocrity.

I remember as a kid being at Lathlain in 81 when Swans kicked 38 goals against us. My foot nearly fell off from kicking the ball back from behind the goals.

But they managed to out do that later in the season when they let Claremont kick 39 goals in another 150+ point thumping. Fk that was a bleak day.

There's a team poster of the 1981 team just outside the Past Players room at Lathlain. What those poor guys went through that year.
