It will be interesting to see how the fixtures are configured next year assuming that each team will still be playing 18 games as per last season and that the season starts on the first Saturday in April with the first final on the first Saturday in September.

Working out the logistics, there are 22 weeks between the 6th April and the 31st August, take out 1 weekend for a state game and a resultant general bye you would have 21 weeks to get through 18 rounds or 90 games in total.
Assuming the WAFC want games every week this would mean 15 rounds of 4 games with two teams on byes and 6 rounds of 5 games. This would create 3 byes for every team during the season, 4 including the state bye.
So really not as much change for the competition as initially anticipated as like others I had assumed that there would be no byes apart from the state game with a 10 team competition. However the only way that the WAFC could achieve this is by starting the season in mid April and play the finals in mid August which I assume would not be a viable option.

yes...you're correct Mike. The WAFC came out and said that even with 10 teams there would still be 3 byes for each club throughout the season which I think is too many...so nothing has changed in that regard.

the Eagles team will control the fixtures to align with their AFL team..

WC are at this stage going to be scheduled for away games however, have said they are looking at buying home games off clubs and playing them at Lathlain..

Heard Hagdorn saying this morning going to be lighting installed at Lathlain good for TV night games and he said the Eagles might buy home games to be played at Lathlain and they are talking to Fremantle (Peel) about playing reserves derby as curtain raisers to the main game.

No sense at all in byes.
Ridicules idea.
Just adjust the season, start a week or 2 later finish a week or 2 earlier who gives a shit.

That would be ideal if they played WCE reserves v Freo Reserves at Curtin raisers, just leave everyone else out of it, unless they give wafl members free entry and a seat at WAFL prices.

Surely they can work it out so there is just general byes rather than teams not playing here there and every where.

In fact a earlier start and finish is what I have always suggested for WAFL anyway to get some oxygen away from the AFL...

DF intriguing comment given you pilloried me for being critical of the direction the WAFL is heading. There were many posts from a number of posters that it needed to be a 10 team competition to get rid of the byes. Well from all reports it has not got rid of the byes at all.

In the process to pressure the clubs into accepting a stand alone team for the Eagles in the WAFL it was stated that that team would play all its games at the venue of WAFL club they are playing. Now there are suggestions that the Eagles want to play at Lathlain Park Oval and possibly curtain raisers as well.

As MO has put it: what the Eagles want they will get in terms of fixturing.

Not sure I always agree with the direction of the WAFC.
But I will leave the negativity to you.
You are so much better than me.
