With 5 rounds to go there are two interesting battles developing in terms of the final 5. One is between WP and SF for 2nd spot and a home qualifying final (potentially a home preliminary final as well). The other is between 5 teams ( well 5 mathematically but 4 realistically) for 4th and 5th position
Games to come for each team are
West Perth ( currently 36 points)- Peel (H), SF(A), Subi(H), EP(A), bye.
Think it will be tough for them to hang onto 2nd with this draw. Will have to beat South to have a chance.
South Fremantle (36 points) -bye,WP(H), SD(A), P(H), EF (A)
Should finish 2nd as long as they beat the Falcons in a couple of weeks.
Here is the draw for the teams still in contention for 4th and 5th
Perth ( 28 points) - EP (A),bye, C(H), SF(A), S(A)
Only one home game in this lot. Given the last two games they really must make the most of their clashes V EP and C and win both. If they can do this I reckon they will make it. Only 1 win will leave them at the mercy of other results.
Claremont (24 points)- S(H),Bye, P(A), PT(H),SD(A)
Assuming they lose to Subiaco, the 2 games after the bye will tell the tale for them.
Peel- (24 points) - WP(A), EP(H), bye, C(A), EP(H)
They seem to be building, if they can win the two home games V East Perth this makes the game v Claremont pivotal to their chances
East Perth ( 20 points) - P(H),PT(A),EF(H), WP(H),PT(A)
They have an extra game than everyone else so they are still well and truly alive. Obviously this weeks game against Perth will be crucial.
Swans (20 Points)- EF(A), S(A), SF(H), bye,C(H)
Mathematical chance only. Even if they manage to get over EF this week, their chances will be snuffed out by Subiaco the week after.
So the crucial games to watch
This week : EP V P
4 Aug SF V WP
PT V EP
11 Aug P V C
18 Aug C V PT
25 Aug: PT V EP.

My view is that one of the alignment teams will get in as well as either Perth or Claremont (more than likely the winner of their match on the 11th August)

Thoughts?

Hopefully Perth make it now that we have seemingly put the cue back in the rack so to speak!

Perth v SF at Fremantle Oval should be a good one.

So close for Perth and Claremont today. East Perth's chances are now quite good with their game in hand but a lot depends on their two games in Mandurah. I take my hat off to the West Perth players who are showing massive spirit to belie their obvious worry about their clubs plight and with this sort of momentum they might be the team to break the winning run of Subiaco in a couple of weeks. Obviously the Demons v Tigers game at Lathlain next week will be massive for both sides.

why would whom ever drew up the fixtures have FART V WART twice in a month down at Centrelink? Is it something to do with the AFL draw?

Not sure BC, next weeks game co-incides with the Western Derby but the other one is during round 23 of the AFL so makes little sense. Probably be better for Perth and Claremont if EP and Peel split the two games.

Sincere thanks to Subi and WP for doing us a favour today. It's all in our hands now.

Certainly is DD.That game at Lathlain in a few weeks shapes as Perths biggest fixture in many years. If they can beat the Tigers, they can just about smell finals. The way the season is panning out,8 wins and a percentage in the 90's may be enough to sneak in. If they can also beat South at Freo in their second last game ( which I think they are capable of doing) They could be looking at a home final. How good would that be..

Some interesting twists this year, WP financial woes gives them something to play for out of desperation and Perth being in the mix for first time in ages...
