He was quality when he played but was riddled with injury, without looking at any records he only played the one season in 82 and he hardly got on the park.

Alan Joyce had two stints as coach at East Fremantle for a 89 (46–43) record including taking the club to the 1977 GF which many (especially Demons supporters) will remember featured the highest ever score by a side in a WAFL GF. Unfortunately for us though it was the other team.

Great topic! Two of the best CHFs I've seen over many years of watching WAFL have been in recent times: Brent Tuckey and David Maplestone. Apologies if they've already been noted. Brent Cowell was s good player too.

A topic on the "worst duds from the East" would be good too. Royce Vardy comes to mind real quick in that regard.

Haydn Bunton Snr won 3 Sandover medals to go with 3 Brownlows must have been the best ever eastern stater. Unfortunately no success for Subi while he was here I think the rest of the team were caught watching him play !!!

jim: my grand dad said that he, and the other Victorians Shea and Hardiman kicked it among themselves, One of Lou Daily's mates said that their presence split the club, Lou left and played in the Goldfields rather than against Subi.

Tom Outridge, whom recruitted them to th club, did not put either Bunton or Hardiman in his best ever side which he picked in 1945 in the Daily News. He did put Shea in the side.

Subi's failure, suggests yet again, that the WANFL was stong at that time. It had players, such as, Ted Tyson, George Doig, and an entire Claremont side of stars, running around at the various grounds.

Interestingly, despite winning back to back flags for South Fremantle, they moved him on due to him running for the Liberal Party (or its predecessor), and South were a working man's Club! Clive Lewington stepped up and coached the other Premierships in that great era for the Club.

From Wikipedia:
Political career[edit]
In 1950 Hutchinson successfully ran for the newly-created seat of Cottesloe in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly, representing the Liberal and Country League (later the Liberal Party), and held the seat until his retirement in 1977. After David Brand led the Liberals to victory in 1959, Hutchinson was named Chief Secretary, Minister for Health and Minister for Fisheries, posts he held in both the Brand-Watts and Brand-Nalder Ministries. From May 1974 to February 1977, Hutchinson was speaker of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly.
