Some good players stood out in the talent game at the Arena of Saturday.

Nick ROBERTSON (mid) was very good, especially around stoppage. The ball seems to drop for him and he made it look easy. His kicking on both feet was excellent but he needs to make more of an impact away from the stoppages and remember that he needs to be accountable for his opponent.

Blake ACRES (Half Back and Mid) this guy’s seem to get better every time he walks onto a field. Worked hard in the back line to make good field position as is very calm under pressure, just makes the right decisions. Loves the run a carry from half back.

CONLIGO (Back) loves to attack with the ball when he got it. Played on a number of times and tried to move the ball fast but his kicking depth is as bad and he needs to do something about his latest haircut.

CAMERON (Ruck) Rucked the best out of the rucks.

Cody GRACE (Back) Took some strong marks and reads the flight well, and so strong overhead.

Corey BYRNE (Back) played strong in the backline. Good overhead with his marks and got some good positioning and with ACRES were the strengths in the backline with GRACE.

It was hard to pick a BOG for the short game that was played. The boys got about 25min each and it was fast paced in some places and then scrappy in others. Players mentioned above all had good points but I don't think anyone stood out for all the right reasons. The thing I saw from some of the players was that they were reluctant to kick the ball to an open player that required a decent kick. Instead they kicked the ball to a contest or tried to have a run with it then stuffed it up.
What I was impressed with were the players that made good decisions when they got the ball under pressure (disposed of the ball to the most dangerous positioned player and attacked the corridor) and also ran hard to position themselves and also pushed backed in defence. Players liked BYRNE and ACRES showed these skills. There were a number of players on the yellow team that stood out but I didn’t get the list of names so it’s hard to comment on them, but from the looks of it SMITH, PICKETT and LEWIS where the better players for that team.

Each Club has had is to have their own day.

I watched the end of the Claremont one and was there for EP one.

At the end of ours the best Beep tests were 16.3 for one the Claremont boys and for one of ours,

Some interesting marks in the agility test a few boys were low 8 with a couple 7.8's .9 which is very good. The jump tests also threw up a few solid performances from both the Tigers and Royals boys.

Not sure of the boys name but an Ashley Garlett from Subi had done very well unit Blake Reilly from EP met or bettered his times in all but the Beep (methinks Blake had spent to many penny's in the jumps)

Was very interesting.

Jesus those beep tests are better than the best at any of the draft camps in history.

EF had theirs today at 11.30.

20m sprint best 2.84sec
Agility best - 7.94sec
Standing vertical jump - not sure someone did a 71cm but there could have been better.
Running vertical jump - same as above around 87cm.

Jonathon Marsh at state did best in the vertical jump with 79cm and Richard Bourne did a 7.87sec in the agility.

Interesting that they take these tests so seriously or at all. I would have thought you can either jump or you can't, you're quick or you're not. From what I've seen in junior development/colts they should be taking more skills tests than anything else. Half the kids still aren't competent on both sides of their body.
