Non-aligned WAFL clubs will each receive $7000 compensation for the loss of eastern States recruited AFL talent under the WA Football Commission's new partnering model.

From 2014 East Perth will be aligned to West Coast with Peel to have a similar arrangement with Fremantle. All players not required for AFL duty each week will play for the Royals or Thunder.

However, there will be changes to the WAFL-AFL servicing agreement next year as part of a transition phase for the 127-year-old competition.

All players recruited from the eastern States by the Eagles and Dockers will be placed in their respective aligned WAFL clubs. And a raft of AFL players will be swapped between Peel and East Perth to avoid conflict.

Moving to East Perth next season will be Jamie Bennell Jamie Cripps, Shannon Hurn, Scott Lycett, Cale Morton, Matt Rosa, Will Schofield, Sharrod Wellingham, Blayne Wilson.

Peel will add Dockers players Zac Clarke, Hayden Crozier, Jack Hannath, Danyle Pearce, Jayden Pitt, Tanner Smith, Matt Taberner to their 2013 squad.
The WAFC will reconvene with all stakeholders in early 2013 to advise the final details of the alignment model for 2014.

geez I don't fancy EP chances in 2013 then?..... .....will be interested to see if EP do some recruiting as well....any more news on Newman going to EP next year?.....

Reading the above article, have noticed there is no mention of the non aligned clubs focussing on the task at hand of fighting this dastardly alignment
Yet plainly mentions there is now plenty of bloody cash to splash about the damned place.

they cant fight it, all they can do is work towards a better deal..

From reading the press releases it appears the WAFL is looking at least getting a better deal and when you consider what is happening it should be a lot more.

I find it disconcerting That the WAFC has obviously done this to appease the 2 AFL clubs and the AFL with NO concern for the WAFL competition and the ramifications. Poorly thought out is an understatement.

Lets go back to the beginning where the 2 AFL clubs wanted to put 2 AFL teams into the WAFL comp as stand alone teams. This was voted down and failed.
Yet now we have 2 aligned clubs that consist of mainly AFL players which to my way of thinking is EXACTLY the same thing!!!
I cannot understand why the WAFL clubs were NOT allowed to vote and defeat the Alignment? The WAFC legal eagles have obviously done their homework and it becomes a WAFC decision because they own the licences of the AFL and WAFL clubs. A Autocratic and NON DEMOCRATIC decision was made.

So where does that leave us? Begging for more money which will be hard earned.
So many questions as to the WAFL rules and Constitution.

Another that came to mind was that Rookies playing for AFL clubs drafted from WA meant WAFL clubs didnt receive any money as it was determined that these Rookies could play for their WAFL Club when not used by the WA AFL teams.
On the other hand if a rookie was picked up by a Eastern states club the WAFL club received $15,000 for his services as he could not play for his WAFL club.
So what is going to happen now?? Will the WAFL club receive the $15000 because this Rookie will be playing for EP or Peel. Bloody hope so.
Once the player was Listed with the AFL club the WAFL club received a further $35,000 in payment. Just another "little" thing they have to work out otherwise the WAFL clubs will be losing another income stream THAT THEY DESERVE AS THEY DEVELOPED the player.

p.s not sure if my payment amounts are current at this time but you get my point.

Boycott threat as WAFL war heats up

The seven non-aligned WAFL clubs are set to boycott pre-season practice matches against the two aligned teams next year after talks on the league's new partnering model stalled yesterday.

Dubbed the G7, the non-aligned clubs were offered $7000 compensation yesterday for the loss of Eastern States recruited AFL talent under the revised model which will involve East Perth being aligned to West Coast and Peel to Fremantle from 2014.

Seven days earlier, the G7 demanded 50 per cent more money in the ongoing battle with the WA Football Commission over compensation.

The clubs told WAFC officials they were seeking $155,000 each, $55,000 more than the $100,000 extra they had been granted by the WAFC as a sweetener for when the club-alignment model starts in 2014.

WAFL Council of Presidents chairman Haydn Raitt said the G7 had been negotiating with the WAFC in good faith to ensure clubs could endorse a detailed model that was in the best interests of the competition and clubs involved.

"The non-aligned clubs expected that the first step in finalising a suitable model was for the WAFC to agree to a financial model that has been put to it by the non-aligned clubs," Raitt said.

"It is now apparent that the negotiations with the WAFC have stalled and that leading into the 2013 season we remain concerned that the integrity of the WAFL competition will be severely compromised and we are fearful that club supporters and members, football fans and the media may become disillusioned with the competition.

"We have therefore agreed to implement a number of actions aimed at bringing negotiations to a satisfactory conclusion so that we have an agreed model in place as soon as possible."

Eagles Shannon Hurn, Scott Lycett, Will Schofield, Matt Rosa and Blayne Wilson, who were all former Peel squad members, will take up with the Royals next year in a transition year, along with West Coast new recruits Jamie Bennell, Jamie Cripps, Cale Morton and Sharrod Wellingham.

Fremantle squad members Zac Clarke, Hayden Crozier and Jayden Pitt will switch from East Perth to Peel, the Dockers' partner club. Joining Clarke, Crozier and Pitt at the Thunder will be Dockers recruits Jack Hannath, Danyle Pearce, Tanner Smith and Matt Taberner.

A feature of the 2013 WAFL fixtures released yesterday was an emphasis on avoiding direct clashes with AFL matches involving WA clubs.

Three games will be played on Anzac Day and two on Good Friday, with the traditional WA Day derby between East and South Fremantle on Sunday, June 2, avoiding a clash with the match between West Coast and Richmond at Patersons Stadium on WA Day (June 3).

I really hope this boycotting pre-season matches against Peel and East Perth seriously goes ahead!

Well Done to the 7 unaligned clubs for Uniting together with this issue. It will show that the G7 Clubs have some balls and can stand up to anyone!

does the term 'sabre rattling' mean anything, it is anempty gesture to make folks think this is 'real'.

It they are serious they would challenge it in the courts

The problem going to the courts is,it will be a long dragged thing with too much money wasted. A boycott is a action that can be made straight away.

They will most probably play each other in the scratchies so it wont worry them. Cant see it being a problem. Might even work out better for them.
We have to do something to hurt the WAFC but cant really think of what legally.
Last year on a very very hot forecast Bill Monoghan said we would not play a scratchie (against swans I think) because it was going to be around 38-40 deg and he said he wouldnt put his players through it in that heat. We were told by the WAFL play or face a heavy fine. We played but with a very very big bench and from memory the qtrs were cut down.
So where does that leave us in this decision can we be fined?
