Brian King MBE, AM
 
Brian King was born in Swans territory in Nurse Bakers Hospital in Harper Street West Midland in 1936. 
 
He lived with his family on a farm at South Chittering and attended the then Midland High School – now known as Governor Stirling and when his family moved to Mandurah, finished school at Pinjarra High School. 
 
Whilst at Midland High School, he played Saturday morning football in the Swan Districts Juniors for Midland Cobbers. In 1951 he commenced work in the General Insurance Industry as an office boy and rose through the ranks to be State Manager of two companies – the last one being QBE Insurance. 
 
He has worked as a Business Liaison Officer for a Federal Senator and also set up a training business for the National Insurance Brokers Association. In community life, Brian has provided outstanding service to many organisations. He has coached and administered junior football in the Claremont Junior Council. 
 
He has been a member of Lions Club International since 1966 and was District Governor in 1972/73. In that time, Brian was a Director of the Lions Save Sight Foundation of WA and Chairman for 20 years up to 1996. It was in 1983, in collaboration with Dr Ian Constable that he helped establish the Lions Eye Institute and chaired the Board from 1983 to 2004. 
 
Brian was also active in promoting the needs of disabled adults and as Chairman of the In Homes Support Group, set up a village complex in Ashfield to provide independent living for disabled adults. In recognition of his long and dedicated community service, he was awarded The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1981; became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2004 and has been awarded Life Membership of the Claremont Junior Football Council, the Industrial Foundation for Accident Prevention, the National Insurance Brokers Association, Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a member of the WA Lions Hall of Fame.
