RIP Gough Whitlam. You will always be remembered. A person who believed that tertiary education and universal health care should be available for all were two of your greatest achievements.

A giant in the ALP and in Australia.

Worst PM Ever, lead a chaotic scandal ridden Government, that were still paying for today.

Kerr was a bigger hero.

A very generous tribute from the Hon Tony Abbott PM.

Condolences to his family regardless.

Help pay for my degree but that’s all I’ll thank him for.
Typical debt running philandering socialist ( a forerunner to Krudd and Joolia ) who thought he was above other Australians by implementing unratified policy through the duumvirate with Barnard.
Introduced the pigs trough that has become Medicare, couldn’t or wouldn’t rein in his crazy ministers, wasted money on welfare while the world was in a recession and was prepared to nationalise most industries in Australia.
Unfortunately hawke and keating learnt from his dumbass politics and managed to stay in for 13 years, which was 7 years too long.

Gough didn't pay for your degree - the Aussie tax payer did.

It was a shambles, of course it didnt last and HECS came in with Hawke.

Yep - remember Keating saying when he and Hawke got into power, all they wanted to do was dissaociate themselves with the Whitlam economic legacy , "We didn't want the country to think., Oh no the hill billies are back in town".

They went on to be a great reforming govt in terms of economic policy.

Of course Krudd and Julia wrecked that.

Lots of things he and the ALP claim are Bull.

Withdrawing from Vietnam - happened under Mc Mahon
Links with Asia started with Casey and Hasluck
White Australia policy ended under Holt

I must say I do not and never have agreed with the socialist views of the left or of Gough.
However as a believer in his cause he made enormous contributions.
His time as PM brought many interesting parliamentary broadcasts accross the ABC.
One of the best was his media conference from the steps of Parliament House in 1975.
What a great day.
To his family condolences may he RIP.

Yeah it was a great era in politics, remember that day well, and watching the broadcast from the step..remember Norman Gunstan was there as well.

back in those days a lot more people took an active interest in politics, the membership of parties was sky high.

I salute Goughs wartime service in the RAAF, his intellect which was great ( just ask and he would of told you), but thats about it.
