Wrong wrong wrong.

It is the VFL. I have the Herald Sun (1st sept) on my desk here. From the cover photo one would think that there were only VFL clubs in the finals.

Turn to page 5, and printed in bold print across 2 pages "FAMOUS FIVE FLY THE FLAG".

First sentence "Victoria has staked it's claim on premiership glory with five of the states teams clinching spots in the eight".

Down a little bit it refers to Fremantle and Port as "invaders", and how Richmond's win put an end to the Eagles and Crows.

Kidding yourself if you don't believe it's the VFL.

Or maybe Melbourne's tabloid is just as parochial as the only locally edited daily newspaper published in Perth - and its coverage reflects its readership as "the West" might.

It is a joke that Richmond does not have a suitable away strip. The AFL has by favoring tradition over the team who has finished higher on the ladder failed to remain impartial. If Port could find an alternative strip at short notice why could Richmond not?

Perhaps we can all watch and listen to the puke on 9 and 7, only freo are palying in the finals, complete with "Thommos" purple tie, mind you it would have been the eagles if thye had made it instead of eagles. Dont think a word uttered bout cats v hawks or dons v north.

I realise the Herald Sun is a Victorian news paper, but what I am getting at is that the teams outside of Victoria are considered invaders (even Sydney), and not considered by the Victorian media as true part of the competitions fabric.

It is blatantly obvious that Victoria's Media, public or even the AFL given the Port/Richmond/West Coast home/away guernsey approach.

Will always be the VFL.

I reckon Port should use their Traditional Jumper on a permananent basis , its one of the oldest clubs with the greatest history in Australia. a real club with a real history should be embraced, stuff collingwood and the colours clash.

Perhaps Collingwood could wear the jumer they wore against Swan Districts in 1982, in a game they lost, on a permanent basis to avoid a clash with Port Adelaide.

..and yet a Vic club on many occassions, say Collingwood would rather Eagles beat Carlton than Carlton win. Not too sure in the "us v them" in the West, that this would occur. Collingwood supporters ( as an example), would rather Carlon lose 22 matches in a row rather than them beat say the Eagles. Over here its if "the eagles dont win, i hope the dockers do!!" In real comps ( east freo v south freo) ya hate yer local oppo team more than any other team.
