Yep SS that is what I mean, the board gets them in trouble and then gets re-elected on a platform of 'we're in trouble'!! I know there was no oppo but I reckon at most other clubs they could put a drover's dog up against an alignment board and get up on a member vote. That is what I find so weird at EP.

BC wrote: I could be wrong Archie but to achieve something like the result you're talking about there would need to be some pretty heavy hitters at the club prepared to challenge the hierarchy. I'm thinking a few current board members or big time sponsors or club legends and the like. They would need to be supported by a ground swell of members and supporters but think it would be impossible to get some traction with just a posse of disgruntled supporters.....I guess it has to start somewhere but as you say, it would need to be organised, decisive and targeted.....just my opinion so could be wrong.

I full agree about any push needing to be "organised, decisive and targeted", BC.
I've played with ammo clubs both here and in Canberra and most blokes at some stage spend some time on the club committee.
Geez, in the good old days playing for the Uni of Canberra Wombats, I was part of a group who organised a "cultural event".
My role was to coordinate the "movies" - suffice to say, I got a few weird looks when one of the films I chose was "Old McDonald Rides Again".
Anyhow, I digress - despite the WAFL's loss in profile, the clubs still require people on the board with the requisite business and/or legal acumen rather than blokes who can select "interesting" movies.
If there are such anti-alignment people available to stand on the EPFC board, that would be great.
There are plenty of disgruntled Royals supporters, many of whom have stopped going to games as a protest against the alignment, who would likely return if things were to change.

Yes, mike, I'd imagine Tom is still anti-alignment, as I suspect (but don't know for sure) a couple of other board members are.
Myself and a few other blokes I spoke to after the AGM are hopeful the board will thrash things out and ditch the alignment extension before the February 28 deadline.

StT, I'd love to see Bill Hayden (I think Bill's still with us) and his drover's dog on the board.
Hopefully a few ex-players (Alan Quartermaine is already on the board) who've had success in the corporate world might materialise or be motivated to act at some stage.
As I've mentioned in earlier posts, anybody nominating for a board position would need more than just an anti-alignment stance to swing the pendulum in the right direction..

Archie, I realize he was only an example you used, but I think you might find that Quartermaine, for reasons I won't go into here (but you might remember), is one of Bronte' s boys.

At the end of the day for quite plausible reasons (for EP) the alignment will continue to, as I understand it and could work out, until 2020. Apparently the legal advice is that we have to give at least 2 years notice before the 28th February of any year to end the alignment oops it is now a partnership.

Also no matter what we do the whip hand is held by the WAFC and WAFL. The WAFC in the agreement and the WAFL in any matters of arbitration, 5 matters and 5 losses to EP and 5 wins to the Weagles.

The added issue is the town of Cambridge, PCC et al regarding where we will be in 2023 and that has a bearing on the partnership regarding our rooms.

There was a vote of the assembled members, abt 60/40 to continue til the 2020 season given all of the information provided and yes there was a fair bit of selling going on but at the end of the day I suspect given the fait accompli of it all why rock the boat.

The greatest point of contention was about having to play Eagles player that were clearly not going to make it in the grown up level, the Bennett Coppings and Lambs of the list.

Am I sad, yes and I am I disheartened, yes but the biggest saddening thing is about the health or not of some of the other clubs and yes it could be as a result of the WAFC/WAFL/EPFC arrangement and yes some spin (but given the nature of social media folk have to careful abt what said) but there is also a little bit bad management going on around the traps. When you have a club having to draw on this years allocation to pay last years payments there is cause for concern and the blame is not just abt EP!

Grump you mention that it was a 60/40 vote by the assembled members, i guess that should be seen as a massive concession my the board to actually ask the members what they think. Shame they didn't use the opportunity to make a strong protest against the alignment/partnership, but then i wasn't there to hear all that was put to the members. Any idea of how many members turned up and what % of the total membership that would be?

The elephant in the room is that they could not get answers from the wafc as to how it would affect east perth financially going back to a stand alone team.Nobody knows what the the next few years are going to hold for all clubs with the new stadium deal.

Hello chaddy22. Just wanted to say a big thank you for your forthright comments to Bronte and the board regarding team selection. Your comments were pointed and spot on. While G7 clubs think we have it made with the players at our disposal the fact is many are not even up to WAFL standard yet we have to put up with them getting selected week after week ahead of EP players who would be no worse and very likely considerably better. It's a core gripe from our supporters and I reckon most of those that turned up to the AGM agreed with you, even Bronte said he shared the frustration.

Yes StT but from what I've seen and read on here and elsewhere, Bronte was the prime mover at EP behind the alignment...so he can be as frustrated as he likes but at day's end he's only got himself to blame.

why would EP supporters be frustrated the the Eagles can dictate selection ?
you take the money you have to accept what comes with that decision.
