Despite being primarily an AFL ground for the last 30 years, Subiaco Oval also has a rich WAFL history and its demise is another link severed to the past traditions of WA Football.
I am sure that people have some fond (and not so fond) memories of Subiaco Oval
Mine include
1982-84 and 2010 Swans flags (missed 1990 was overseas). The 2010 GF was particularly sweet because it was so unexpected
The Tuesday afternoon State of Origin games in the mid 80s
1978 GF Perth V East Perth – torrential downpour in the last quarter
1979 GF EF v SF – 52000 people.
There were the times I came away from there bitterly disappointed too. None more so than the 1981 finals series where Swans went out in straight sets after dominating much of the season and breaking many records in the qualifying round but at the pointy end they were found wanting by two outstanding teams.
There are many more memories for me but I would be interested in reading other peoples recollections of the ground
Same as above for me Mike the 1982, 83, 84, 90 & 2010 GF's and all the S.O.O games in the 80s were we beat the Vics and some vs SA as well although I did see the 1990 GF from the old 3 Tier Stand as well.
Some of the other games we played at Subi Oval were a game in 1984 where we belted Claremont and my hero Brent Hutton kicked a bag of 11 majors, it was always a bit of a novelty playing home and away games at Subi enjoyable days.
Saw some great concerts there too over the years- Australian Made in 1987 (INXS etc), AC/DC, Pearl Jam, U2, Guns n Roses the list goes on and on.
