The real problem is that the WAFL clubs wouldn't stand up for themselves and now can't
They have allowed the dictatorship of the WAFC to go unchallenged to the point now they have to just accept the scraps that fall off the table to eat and survive.
Such is the % distribution of the votes that unless you have the support of at least one of the WA based AFL clubs(40% each) and the WAFL you can't be elected to the WAFC
There is no hope of any change and the WAFL comp is dead in the Water.
The WAFL will continue to get funds from the WAFC via the AFL clubs in order that they have a comp for their reserves to play in
If the AFL sets up a reserves comp, the money will dry up and goodbye WAFL.

For mine this is totally and utterly abnormal in any serious comp and a grave problem for second tier footy in this State. Do people agree that treating this dominance as in any way normal or acceptable is no longer on? People may say what do we do, fine, but first we have to accept it’s no longer acceptable. People may say they are the benchmark and the rest have to lift their games. I say bs on that. Could cop it for a decade or so but they have gone from 75% to over 90%. It is now totally silly.

Do you people agree it has all now gone completely beyond a joke?

I think the whole competition is now silly in it's current form. The Wafl clubs shot themselves in the foot at the end of the 2013 season.
And a further insult happened at the beginning of this season. Many may say it brings a lot of money to the Wafl. Apparently that makes everything alright!
The Wafl clubs should be awash with money and shouldn't be screaming poor anymore, if that's the case?
But sadly the Wafl competition will struggle on for a little while more.
How long for is the question?
The Wafl clubs are stuck and can't manoeuvre, and it's sad to see the degeneration of our once great competition.

I do not entirely agree. The alignments have been poor but we have survived them. WP let us down really badly last year but maybe they can turn it around. I think the subi problem by far and away the biggest crisis for wafl. If in the next 5 years we had comps like the ones being discussed by Ark n co on the other thread it would be a totally different story. I think we’d have a resurgence. Not huge mind you but quite a few would come out of the woodwork and hang around. But how can you possibly drum up any interest when a team doesn’t lose and basically has not done so for twenty ckn years!!!!

Subi supporters are like moths to the flame. I got banned from their site by DG so I started this thread and they’ve all come across. I think they realise there is a problem.

Stt DG was right to delete the posts; but, here on the WAFL thread you can write as you wish to your heart's content
Can you imagine what is like being a Subi supporter between 1988-2004? When we had all the advantages and won bugger all. We recruitted in that time too, had good coaches, such as Bunton, Buckenara, Tony Solin, but could not win it. Peter German turned the club around in its ethos. We have recruitted and had some fortune wit the zone -- Smith, Rumble

You have made comments in regard our latest coach coming from the colts position, which is, of course true, but what is your point? In truth, our last three coaches all coached the colts --Watters, Schofield, Boardman.

What has happened between 2004 and now in terms of the Subi question?

The ethos changed, heavy recruitting and a reasonable zone are factors which have stayed the same. At the same time, and others, such as BH have stressed this at different times, the other clubs have got weaker:

- the introduction of Peel
- the alignment
- AFL stand alone sides
-- finances WP did some good recruiting in the 1990s as did SD later on
-- mistakes by other clubs eg, EF; Perth for votting in Peel

In sum the problems of the WAFL are structural, unrelated to Subi genius or the incompetence of other clubs

I would take half of Peel's zone away tomorrow if I could
Perth have been given extra points

Singha,

Thats fine to respond with the above but as much as STD shits me to tears, the points he makes are very valid and what we are currently seeing unfold before all our eyes. Its no big secret that I have stressed similar over time but my concern is we are dying in the arse at a rapid rate, I keep saying the $ubi will very soon be either playing against themselves or in a comp that involves the WCE, a eventual Freo Reserves side and possibly Perth as they are reaping the West Coast "semi" alignment with their home base at Lathlain. Yes all clubs would have loved to have the $ubi agreement but put simply the WAFC have been a pack of gutless muppets that have not conducted an extensive review of their books (please don't tell me they have), because while Randall and the other $ubi bloke are at the WAFC it won't happen and hasn't happened. It is laughable to read some of your responses with minimal care factor because you are missing a massive point, and that is essentially what STD is saying and all the best in 5 years or sooner when "YOU ARE PLAYING AMONGST YOURSELVES"
