Looks like the WA boys are giving the Vic Metro boys a good stuffing....great to see.....the skipper Devon Robertson from the Perth footy club leading from the front......lot of talk about the Vic Metro being strong with a number of top 10 picks....if anyone went to the game would be grateful for a post match review.....think a few fellas here might have a mixture of emotions tho....WA stuffing the big V, though a WA team playing under the player first mentality instead of the traditional club first mentality.....great to see 6 EF boys playing as well

Couple of last quarter junk goals by the Vic M boys to ease their scoreboard woes....well done WA great first up win.

A good win to WA against Vic Metro who have now lost both their games (vs WA & Vic Country).
A fairly even spread of the workload from all of the WA boys (which is more a team first than player first philosophy but will leave that to the "experts" from their Icelandic bunker to make comment there).
Vic Metro as seems to be the case every year had some big units down the spine and big bodied midfielders compared to us but I thought we looked more dangerous with the footy in hand with some real x-factor (apparently you can teach that and doesnt come naturally according to some overseas admirers) and when the ball got inside our forward 50 we had plenty of quick small forwards ready to swoop.
Our pressure on the VM ball carriers was very good too for much of the contest which hasnt always been a WA trait but the Vics certainly knew they were in a contest.
Hard to single out any individuals as I saw it as a real team effort with the backs, mids and forwards all contributing to get the win but big Jackson in the ruck has some nice hands and palming skill set for a big young man.
Not sure where WA are in the whole scheme of things as havent seen SA or Allies play but Vic Country looked good knocking off VM last week.

Spot on with your analysis and subtle wit BH....surprised WA only played one under ager tho....definitely some gooduns in Trew, Western, Walker and McDonald there....hopefully they will get a game over the carnival to show case their talent....perhaps a few older boys were given a go to showcase their talent....but hey a win is a win....WA looked a tad undersized up back and front.....but made up that lack of extra height with a relentless attack on the footy....Great to watch.

Another disappointing loss to SA on the weekend with that player first mentality, catch the eye of talent scouts razzle dazzle stuff coming a cropper against the team first philosophy of the Croweaters.
Sometimes when the conditions are not pristine (slippery footy on the dewy Stadium turf) you have to adapt to the conditions and style of play.

I thought WA had more inside 50s than SA, just poor execution in front of goal BH.....happens in footy....1.5 in the last summed up WA day....fellas like McDonald and Martin got on the end of leads, just couldn't convert....Garcia missed a gimme to get WA within 3 pts....that's footy....thought SA looked taller across the park.....thought Pasini, Rivers and Ruscoe did well v taller opponents....whilst Jackson showed his class in the air and on the ground.....WA has a lot of x factor type players up front....all flashed in flashed out....just needed a tall target up front and that WA player first mentality would of gotten WA over the line.....just need to win our remaining two games well and hope SA get rolled by one of the Vic teams.....who on paper probably match up better v SA than WA from a team balance BH.......

To be honest Freeze I thought our tall forwards Martin, McDonald etc were very disappointing.
They were far too often out marked by their SA defender opponent and couldnt bring the ball to ground to allow the likes of Henry, Bennell, Anderson, Thorne to go to work.
I didnt see SA overusing the handball like WA did in the slippery conditions and hence were able to utilise their inside 50s whilst we stuffed around trying to be cute before inevitably losing control of the footy.

Yep totally agree about WA and their over use of the footy....a lot of sideways disposal, very ineffective at times......SA were more direct and effective with their disposal, thus reflected on the scoreboard. I guess the conditions didn't help, but the overall standard of the game, for reputedly two of the top teams of the carnival was disappointing.....only youngsters I know, but realistically I saw no one capable of stepping up to AFL footy next year, like say a Walsh, Naughton, Rozee etc when they played in their carnivals.....but happy to be proven wrong.
