I am not suggesting that, continuing to target under performing middle range players and replacing them with your best young players will win flags -- Armstrong could not have won a flag with Perth's early 1980s, and certaily not his Subi side -- but the philosophy behind what he did was correct, then an now;

Perhaps you need more nous from the Vics & less local?

Until Peter Bell was appointed Football Operations Manager the club was entirely run by Victorians and where has that got us? All current coaches are from Victoria including Ross Lyon, David Hale, Anthony Rock and Brent Guerra. Maybe you need to do your homework?

So looking at a perspective on identity/success and where they come from etc -

- Brisbane have won 3 flags and they came with a Victorian in Leigh Matthews
- Sydney have won 2 flags since 2000 with a former North person in Longmire (yes I know he is from NSW, but his original club was out of the Ovens and Murray League) coaching one and Paul Roos a Victorian coaching the other
- Adelaide have won two with Blight as coach, yes a South Australian albeit with previous coaching experience with North Melbourne and Geelong (taking Geelong to 3 GF's
- And of course the weagles who have won of course 4, one with a West Australian (with identity) in Worsfold, the other 3 from out and out Victorians in Malthouse and Simpson.

So for mine I'm not convinced where this identity and local influence is to lead Fremantle to the promised land, unless Earl Spalding et al is/are up for the challenge.

Oooll stole my thunder, although I was thinking WA only. I’m not one to defend the vics, but the Eagles - 7 GF
appearances. 5 under a vic, 2 under a West Aussie. Freo 2, GF appearances under a Vic.

Freo wish they had 2 GF appearances but reality is just the 1 in 2013!

Let St Kilda have him back.
They're just as much a basket case as Freo.
Good on you Reiwoldt what a top idea.
At least you would be doing Freo aq favour.
Unfortunately I don't think there is a coach anywhere that could take Freo to anything meaningful.

I actually think Fremantle have a solid list. Ross has a shit game plan.

Darcy is going to be a beast, he must play every game.
Hogan must be given every chance at winning the Coleman each week, who gives a shit if if he can run 16km a game, contested marks usually end in goals. Just ask WCE fans about Kennedy and Darling.
Kirsten was a handy player before Ross started coaching him, let him take the shit defender each week at AFL level instead of waiting for him to prove himself in the Wafl.

I reckon a lot of potential coaches would be licking there lips to have a tinker with the squad.

Outside of Fyfe they lack any sort of quality mid fielders, and their skill level is terrible.

The one thing Ross has never improved at Freo is the skills of players by hand and foot.

Agree with you about the list but pretty certain Kirsten hasn’t played a game all year due to plantar fasciitis and will most likely be delisted at the end of the season.

You got that right PH...they're currently sitting 14th in disposal efficiency at 69.7% with only PA, Melbourne, Blues and the Suns behind them.
