Texas is one of the states where it's legal to carry a firearm and display it. Apparently it's supposed to act as a deterrent to would-be shooters...it didn't do much good in El Paso. Imagine here in Australia going to do the grocery shopping at Woolies and there's some idiot with a semi automatic slung across his shoulder. It doesn't bear thinking about.

a bigger problem is black killing black with hand guns. Apparently, for black males, thirty per cent die in homicides ( as cause of death). No one is campaigning to restrict hand guns.

If they ever tried a buy back scheme, which Fox wrongly labels 'confiscation' they will have to make use of the national guard to support the police in some regions; but, so be it.

BC -- I think you can bear arms in most states -- what they hate, even in Texans, are cancealled, weapons, for obvious reasons.

Black on black homicide is a huge problem, but the death rate for black males is nowhere near 30%, Ark.

The 2017 figure is 38 deaths per 100,000 (of black) population, or 3%, and is ranked 7th for cause of death.

As a comparison, 266/100,000 die from heart disease, and 173/100,000 from cancer.

Thanks Jack, further to your analysis, please look at the above site, it shows that black death by homicide is 20 percent, four times the national average. This is a most unhappy figure. It is not talked enough in America for a number of complex reasons.

You're misreading the chart, Ark.

It is 20.9 per 100,000 population, or 2.1%.

Is there a faint glimmer of hope over there? Or will it all fall in a heap?
Apparently the legislative body of the city and shire of San Francisco has adopted a resolution officially declaring the nra a terrorist organization. The declaration was first thought of in July after the shooting at a Garlic Festival. The officials also urged other cities, states and the US government to follow suit.

Given the NRA would be far better funded than most city or county legislatures, they will take these bodies to court and get the decisions reversed and will probably sue these bodies for all they are worth given the NRA are morally and ethically corrupted.

Yep, been here done all this before BC, and we will do it again at the next mass shooting.

Just could never imagine living with the constant threat of firearms in a public place as you describe, its totally against our mindset and lifestyle here.

All I can say as a former Policeman is the fewer guns out there the better, I've seen what they can do to a human body a few times, mainly via suicide and its not good, and there's nothing worse than going to a violent domestic with the dreaded message that the house is a registered place for firearms.

I was working as part of the national buy back scheme/control legislation, really had my doubts about how many people would hand in there guns, but was overwhelmed with just how effective it really was. This will be one of the great lasting legacies of Howard/Fischer (RIP).

the gun lobby in the US should be reminded that they have not always had the right, which is why that particular right is an amendment to their constitution.
