Hopefully JT reads this and does something about it. I'd also like to see the stats on those who've signed up and pay the dollar a day and compare it to total hit numbers to see what impact it's had on readers viewing online. I used to go online to The West a couple of times a day to see what's happening around the place but can't be bothered now.

Exactly the same here. Used to check it a few times a day. Don’t look at all now. I was only really interested in WAFL stories. Just another nail

The system will record how many times an article has been clicked on / read.
The sad fact is if nobody pays to click on, they assume that people aren't interested in that topic and stop paying a journalist to write about it
Goodbye WAFL coverage. .

WA's statewide suburban "newspaper" has taken the paywall a step further.

Up until now, if you clicked on a paywalled article, you could read the first few lines, or couple of paragraphs.

No longer - click now, and you go straight to the wall, with only the headline to give you a taste of what the article may include.

Given it's rapid slide to the right (Lanai Scarr ffs), the sooner they fold the better.

I’m still getting a few lines but I only know this cos I looked after reading your post.

It makes me so mad that the west has gone this way and is in a death spiral. It didn’t need to be this way. West Australians used to love and be proud of our paper. Stokes with all his money could have tried to revive the west like bezos is doing with the Washington Post. People would have got behind him. Poor effort by our bloke.

I see that the west has no block on anti-Lyon articles. I’m no fan of Ross but this lining up of people by the west is this once well regarded daily sinking to new lows.

No one is sadder than I of how our once upon a time great newspaper has been allowed to deteriorate to the current level.
No S t T, it's not sinking to new lows because it's already been sunk for a while. Very sad to be saying!

If you had any doubts how low the West could go, the online version is now pinching and publishing Schapelle Corby gossip from New Idea. :woohoo:

Its not worth looking at anymore. I'll look at the Announcements to see if any past players have passed away, but no doubt that will be behind a paywall in the future.

Learned something new today from the Worst.

Apparently Xavier Ellis was a "star Eagle".

Certainly not in line with my memory of his short, injury interrupted career after coming back from the Poos & Wees.

In the same edition, they manage to turn a story about the WA property market into a story about Nic Nat. FFS!
