What an epic failure by Bill Shorten and the labour party machine, what should have been a very comfortable win with an 8-10 seat majority was destroyed by the toxic Shorten brand. Credit to him for a good concession speech but cant say the same for some of his colleagues. It was great to see that sour piece of work Senator Wong squirming in her seat on the ABC coverage but she still managed to bag the Libs and by that disrespect the electorate, whinging and complaining all night, a really graceless performance. The same can be said for Plibasek who pretty much went on the attack at the libs and how the world will end because the voters got it wrong, again a graceless and disrespectfull performance from the individual who is likely to take over from Shorten. In contrast Anthony Albanese did show some class when on the ABC panel and later speaking to the party faithfull, not about the past but looking towards the future, hopefully he will get the gig over that sour bitch Plibasek.

ScMo's acceptance speech was full of energy and he has a presence that Shorten never had, he has full control of the Libs now and even tho they may have to deal with a minority government situation I think the Libs will move more to the centre under his captaincy especially give that spoiler Abbott is gone.

As it turned out, doing the preference deal with Palmer and One nation was a political master stroke especially given that Palmer wont win a senate seat and ON will either maintain what they have or lose the seat, so the Libs wont have to deal with Palmer but benefited from his $60++ mill campaign.

Interesting times ahead.

Lets hope for Australias sake that there is some substance behind the marketing guru. I will wait for a coherent policy in the coming weeks. Give him credit though a very successful scare campaign which Labor were unable to counter.

Yep, I reckon it out does Hewson.

Shorten and Bowen tanked it big time, that Tax Policy was a killer, messing with Negative Gearing, peoples retirement funding etc is a recipe for disaster , its fortunate most people did exactly what Bowen said to do, vote against it.

Bowen I reckon is actually the biggest deadest dud in the ALP, had Boats coming out of his backside as minister, and was an arrogant tosser as opp Treasurer with mad capped anti investment tax policies.

Ok if you hate the alp and love the libs no worries but this is not some amazing failure or amazing win. The lib vote totally bottomed out at the last election it would seem. Scomo did slightly, slightly better than Turnbull. The electorate who hated shorten in 2016 hated him again. There was no epic fail or win here, just a repeat of 2016 which looks a bit different cos we were stupid enough to believe the papers about what was going to happen when we really should have known better. There is no big story here Bazza. What if papers had said scomo to win easy, they’d now he saying he limped over the line. The whole discussion is being dominated by press generated expectations and now spin on them getting it wrong. Nothing to see here Baz.

Most will think Henson 1993.Im pretty sure Labor blew some elections in the 1950's+60's.When Menzies governed for over 20 years.
There was a famous split in the Labor party in the 1960's.Between the ALP+The Democrat Labor party lead by Bob Santamaria. The divide was so great both party's preference the libs over each other.
In the early 60's Au had a big credit squeeze with 12% interest rates. In 1954 a leading Labor MP got caugh having a meeting with a Soviet spy.The Petroff Affair.Labor had polls them like the last 3 years.
I've thought there was something wrong with these polls the last month. And I though it was a hung parliament and as close as 2016.Because of the Government vote holding in Sydney+Queensland. But noone could pick the puff of air Labor had in Victoria. My wife told me to have a bet last Wednesday on a Lnp return but I lacked the courage.I thought Palmer would poll 10% and preference the Lnp +adding to that Labor low first preference vote.It didn't work out that way but the result surprised all.
I did start a thread on here about a month ago.Cliffhanger Federal Election.

correct gtr

I think it is important for people not to get sucked into Keating's propoganda about 1993: the election was entrirely winnable because of Hewson's extreme policies; in short, all he did was get back in power, in the same way Morrison has.

Mikeh, the libs learnt a good lesson from labour in the previous election when they saw how a well orchestrated scare campaign (labours mediscare) can make a significant difference

Pretty piss weak that Swan42 hasn't come out of his shell to face the music. Was bombarding this site on a daily basis when the opposition was killing it in the polls after the dumping of Malcom Turnbull. Come out come out wherever you are 42 and face the music. Where did it all go wrong?

Was it Russian or Chinese collusion? Shortarse was just misunderstood? Reminds me of Billy Birminghams rip off of Darryl Eastlake on Wide World of Sports interviewing Rick Disnick after he ploughed into the vault at top speed. "What happened Rick, did you blow a sandshoe on the runway or did you just fuck up? No Darryl, I just fucked up!! Hahahahaha

Get on your bike.
