Surely the 2 time premiership and former WAFL coach of the year in Cam Shepherd will be short listed.

Hey DD did you ever find the secret video/tape re Ross Lyon? Perhaps it might surface now Lyon has left the building.

Poor Ross run out of town by a vindictive WA media and members/supporters whos knowledge of coaching would be zero. I wonder how many more games they would have won with S Hill, Wilson, Bennell, Taberner, Lobb, Hogan, Ryan, Cox and Pearce playing more games.

Don’t know much about Longmuir but gut feel is he’s not the right guy. I’d go Sumich.

Good to see you pop your head up RD and a rare moment we agree on something. Sumich is an AFL coach in waiting and his time with the u/18’s will give him an advantage other assistant coaches don’t have.

For me JLo is still a bit too young to lead an AFL team on his own. He only retired in 2007 age 26. That makes him 38 on my abacus. I haven’t heard him or seen him much in front of the media and that’s another area a coach needs experience. And he hasn’t coached his own team. Suma coached SF for a couple of years and now the u/18’s the last couple of years and two stints as a senior AFL assistant in between.

Surely you’re not trying to defend RL? Maybe Peel will play with more freedom now he’s gone?

Cam Shepherd would be a shoe in for mine RD. Imagine how he'll go with 22 Freo players in the team instead of only 17.

Sumich will eventually be a successful coach. Hope Freo don’t destroy him.

Will be interesting to see how the Freo squad react to a coach with a more attacking mind set, i expect it will feel like a ball and chain has been removed and they can play with more freedom and flair. Lets hope the boys thinking of moving decide to give the new coach at least 1 year to show his wares.

SS I just think the senior players like Fyfe, Walters and Mundy will react better to a more senior coach like Sumich. I remember taking my son to watch Eagles training at an open day when Woosha was coach and Suma was still punting them through for fun 45 - 50 from the right forward pocket at the Princess Margret end. I think he always oozed confidence in his ability and can release the shackles and encourage the players to enjoy their footy.

Fair comment Freo will be so much better off with either.
