If Kelly does return to Perth it will be to West Coast.

With the required trades to Geelong and Nic Nat being offered a reduced contract extension, West Coast will find the room in their salary cap they need to lure Kelly.

I’m at the stage where I don’t care if Kelly signs with the Eagles or not. This is starting to smell like the Judd trade. He shopped himself around like the Messiah, but in the scope of things, wasn’t worth a cup of cold water. We don’t need a mercenary.

Are you kidding 58? Kelly is in the very top flight of AFL players and is worth a shipload of money and whats wrong with shopping himself around? These blokes have a very limited time-frame in the game and need to make every post a winner, the clubs have no problems shopping players off to other clubs when it suits them so why not the other way around. Kelly is not just a champion player he's a champion bloke with a good stable family life which is what clubs look for. His TV interview last night would indicate he's been offered a very nice contract extension from the Cats and over the last year he and his family have settled into life down at Geelong, so all the conjecture could be for nothing. If he decides to come back and it looks like it would only be to the Eagles he will demand and get a massive contract, lets face it WC could afford to pay him ++ they are the richest club in the comp. As for Freo ..... well why would Kelly want to attach himself to a basket case club with an out of date fossil as a coach.

Because we will have a new coach at some time within the next 10 months, whether that be at the end of this season or half way through next season. Kelly's manager has dispelled talk that he didn't want to be traded to Fremantle. We are in the box seat because we have much more to bring to the table. I just hope that doesn't include Brad Hill but we need a Tim Kelly.

From the interview last night it didn't sound like Kelly was all that keen to leave the Cats. I also believe the deal on the table from Geelong is very lucrative and is based on a year by year option meaning he's not locked into a long term commitment to stay there. IMO that would be very appealing if he or his missus happens to get too homesick they can see out the year and head back west. I also don't think WCE have the draft picks required to get him which is the main reason they missed out this year. They would have to trade someone to acquire a couple of low picks to satisfy the Cats. Freo would be better placed to get it done but as SS says, Freo has never really been a high destination club and nothing in recent times would have changed that view.

if you wanted to set yourself up for the rest of your life with a very lucrative 5 year+ contract, make everyone believe that you are leaving to go home.

The only reason Kelly won't win the Brownlow is because Dangerfield will take votes off him.

He is the best player in the comp at the moment and his form from last year suggests its going to continue.
