No doubt the Poms will bounce back Freeze.
I reckon their bowling attack is pretty good dont forget Anderson went down early (thank god as he is extremely dangerous in English conditions), Broad, Woakes, Stokes plus the likes of Archer, Wood, Curran etc as standby quickies, Ali had a shocker but has troubled us over there in the past couple of series, Rashid and Leach the back up spinners.
I wasnt overly enthusiastic on Piddle's selection but I thought he bowled well without any luck and it might come down to him, Pattinson or Starc for Lords.

Wood is out injured for the series I believe BH. Not sure what the English were thinking sending Anderson out to bat when the game was already a lost cause, surely they would not want to take risks with him if they have any thoughts of him returning later in the series. Archer is a great prospect for them but it will be tough for him carrying England's hopes in his debut test. Woakes has got an outstanding record at Lords so he and Broad will give our batsmen a bit to think about as well.
As for Lyon, he is 2nd only to Warne in the annals of Australian spin bowlers ahead of players like Benaud, Mailey, Grimmett, O'Reilly, Mallett and Macgill

mikeh: so true about Moen Ali -- under no circumstances should that man be picked for the next test match. They would be better off picking Rashid and having the captain bowl.

Well done to Australia particularly, Smith.

I think Siddle would be hard done by if he's dropped, he bowled beautifully on the last day with zero luck, beat the bat on so many occasions and was getting some good cut off the pitch, he's also a very solid tailender, but, horses for courses and Starc has to come in for Lords, bowling down the hill he will be a fearsome prospect. Cummins bowled superbly, his ball to finish things off was near on unplayable for any batsmen let along a tailender.

The second innings provided some confidence for some of the batters who have been struggling, all we need now is a couple of openers who can grind out a decent partnership to take the pressure off the middle order. Our 3,4 &5 have effectively had to open the innings.

Last Thursday night seems such a long time to ago now.The test will be remembered for a few reasons.
Fightback in first innings 8-123.
Two amazing centuries by Steve Smith.
England large first innings lead.
Marsterstroke selection of Peter Siddle.
England's selection gaff.In form Chopra Archer watching from the stands. After Anderson broke down after 4 overs. And left England 1 bowler short+Moin struggling as there front line spinner.
Mathew Wade deserved his test spot and delivered.

The 1st Test was exhilarating viewing GTR especially the last few days.
Hopefully the rest of the series is just as good.

As talented as Archer may be.....tough ask to step up to test match level from a 2nd XI contest and be expected to replace someone of the ilk of Jimmy Anderson.....the key to Archer is to keep bringing him back for more spells.....played fark all 4-5 day stuff in his career......not sure Eng have enough back up bowling wise to protect the guy....Rashid or Leach would need to come in for Ali, who looks mentally shot TBH......ENG are prime for a jugular throttling....hopefully others besides the Smith show can step up and deliver....a Warner or Uzzie ton will be greatly appreciated me thinks.....if Aust win the toss do they put Eng in to make the most of the expected early bounce?

Will be interesting to see if they produce a spicy pitch like the one which saw the England V Ireland match completed in 2 and a half days. The risk of this of course is that they will also expose their batsmen to Cummins and potentially a fresh Starc and Hazlewood as well. I think it will be a better batting pitch than the one that Ireland got skittled for 38 but they might try and produce a seamer which would suit Broad and Woakes rather than the raw pace of Archer.
Talking of Archer did anyone see the vision of him bowling in the 2nd XI game yesterday?. He took 6 - 27 including a few stump demolitions against pretty clueless batsmen who had probably never seen anything as fast as him. He then went out and smashed a lazy 108. Not sure what the exercise really achieved for him, perhaps it would have been more effective for him to have some centre wicket practice against more skilled batsmen.

Not sure what will be taken out of the tour game for the next test....no matter what Harris scores, can't see him replacing Bancroft just yet.....tho Bancroft surely will need a decent score at Lords to keep Harris at bay.....Starc was expensive compared to Hazlewood on the bowling front....Hazlewood is a taller version of Siddle one would think, perhaps better suited to Lords as well....so if any bowling change was to be made Hazlewood in for Siddle, tho in all honesty the latter doesn't deserved to be dropped.....Starc would be better used when the series is won and he can be let loose....interesting to read what was said about Starc and his tendency to bowl too many 4 balls....which would help the likes of Roy, Bairstow and Buttler find some form and confidence......Siddle being the tighter bowler helped keep the guys under wraps and under the pump scoring wise, thus making them lose their control and give their wickets up.....

I hope Archer does come in....exciting talent for sure, but test cricket is a different game and despite Roots attempts no doubt to bowl Archer in short sharp spells, hopefully the Aussie batsmen(or should I say Smith) can bat long and deep and keep asking Archer to come back to bowl over and over again....Broad isn't getting any younger, Anderson is out, Ali appears to be a liability and devoid of confidence, Stokes leaks runs but can take wickets....leaves only Woakes, who Root only asked 7 - 8 overs from, perhaps with the Lords test in mind, where he has had previous success at.....but surely with Eng in control before that Aust 2nd innings, Root would of utilised Woakes more considering Anderson was out, Ali was struggling and Stokes and Broad weren't really doing much....

Just read that Siddle has a first class bowling average of over 56 playing at Lord's, Starc at 51, whilst Hazlewood is sitting at 17....surely if the selectors are going to back up their mantra picking horses for courses teams for each respective ground, then Hazlewood surely is a lock to play....regardless of Siddle's form....Hazelwood is the closest prototype Aust has to McGrath....and MsGrath owned Lord's during his career.
