Seeing as how we’re letting it out....a very, very good mate of mine lives on a block in Bogandeen with 4 homeswest units on it. 2 of the units are occupied by normally friendly aboriginal couples. He rang me about 0115 one morning asking me to get him and his son out of there. When I got there, he looked like he’d been hit with a Mack truck. He’d been having a few with his direct neighbor and brother. The two brothers had been on the gear, flipped and wanted to “take out a white cnt “. I took him to hospital, looked after his boy and took photos of him next morning. What happened after that? SWEET FK ALL. Preferential treatment.
So in this discussion, no one has mentioned that 5 letter word......D R U G S.

Top of the class 58.Drugs cause most of these problems. Some are also alcohol related.

Nope...disagree that drugs and alcohol are the main causes. People have choices and it's people that are the one and only cause of our increasingly violent society. Drugs and alcohol are vehicles but at days end, they don't force people to ingest them...people choose to. If no-one took drugs and alcohol was unpopular then both would probably disappear due to laws of supply and demand but crime would still continue. Drugs were around in my days of youth but the crime rate was nothing like it is now so I go back to my original comment on this thread that it is a breakdown of family structures and all things that go with it which includes indigenous and non-indigenous families. It's like the gun related homicide problem in the US....the availability of guns is not ideal but they're not the root cause of gun violence...it's the idiots that have access and choose to use them as a gun lying on a table or in a cabinet never killed anyone...sama sama with drugs and alcohol.

DD...this is probably the best topic on here since footy finished last season as everyone has view....well done.

in this society, where 'aboslute poverty' is relatively low comparred to some parts of the globe, most crime is linked to neurological problems.

I don't disagree with you 58shark but my thoughts are very similar to BC's. The problem with blaming drugs (and alcohol is a drug), is it can be used as a cop out, an excuse for someone's unlawful and unacceptable behaviour. And don't lawyers love to use that excuse, first blame their life circumstances for getting on the grog or drugs and then blaming that for their deed.

We've all drank excessively at some stage in our lives I assume. Did our thoughts turn to extreme violence?

You hear all the stories about places like Rio being dangerous, violence in certain parts of the world etc, tbh honest I felt safer there than here.

I was back in Murray St last week middle of the day and some prick fighting and started turning on me because I was just walking past, then another day Hay St someone riding a bike down middle of Hay St Mall abusing people shouting obscene stuff out. This place is gone to the dogs.

Agree to disagree BC. Taking drugs may well be a lifestyle choice, but once they inject, snort or whatever they do, all lifestyle choices are gone. Some of them can and do become rabid animals. At the same time, my mate’s neighbors were great people when straight. We still had arseholes back in the day and people doing it hard and they had alcohol, but not drugs. Whichever way, I’m glad I’m in my 60’s and not in my teens.
