It appears that the Liberals drive to force some private power companies to divest parts of their companies the legislation could force state governments, including here in Western Australia, to sell utilities currently in state ownership.

42 did Peter Costello try something similar around 12 years ago.Western Power was broken up into 3 companys.A country provider,Western Power in Perth and a separate billing company.

SECWA was initially split into Western Power (electricity) and Alinta Gas (gas). Subsequently Western Power was split into Western Power, Horizon Power, Synergy and Verve Energy.

I believe the decisions to split were WA government decisions.

Further to the disorder and incompetence within the Coalition government they now want to vote on a bill that was apparently rewritten overnight without allowing any members of parliament being able to review the legislation (which relates to forcing energy companies to divest their assets). I can't wait for DD to try to reconcile this latest act by the Morrison government.

To put it in context the explanatory memorandum associated with the bill is in excess of 100 pages.

Oops!

Australia had its slowest economic growth in two years in the three months to September as households wound back on spending while digging deep into savings.

The national accounts – a comprehensive guide to the state of Australia’s economy – showed growth overall expanding by just 0.3 per cent in the September quarter.

That is half the rate economists had expected, and well down on the 0.9 per cent growth in the June quarter.

The September figures put the annual growth rate at 2.8 per cent, a marked slow down from the 3.4 per cent reported for June.

I wonder how this will look around April/May next year.

What has happened in the last hour or so in the House of Reps shows just how low the Morrison government has sunk and their complete disdain for the people of Australia. Their unwillingness to have a debate about stripping companies of their assets just goes to show how far removed from any honourable principle the RWNJs have dragged the Liberal Party.

Let all West Australians note and vote accordingly against the Liberals who think they are above parliament.

JS given what they have been doing in the House of Reps there will be a huge backlash against the government.

I suspect that the House of Reps will be sitting for a very long time tonight with every Labor member in the House of Reps speaking against the piece of legislation which the Morrison governments wants to pass to strip assets from private energy companies.

Does that include Craig Kelly, Christian Porter and the other climate deniers?

There is a very good chance Kelly will be gone, and it was a disgraceful sign of weakness by Morrison not to let him face pre selection which he knew he would lose as the locals don't want him and with good reason as well he has become an embarrassment, his comments on the dead Australians in the Malaysian Airlines disaster should be been enough to immediately disendorse him.

Porter is gone I reckon., anyone on less than 6% across the country is in trouble,

Im with BC, a major clean out is needed if the Party has any chance of renewal, Dutton will go and there is a big move against Abbott in Warringah I think he will be in trouble from a high profile Indie. them Abetz and the old rump will be history as of May 2019, there will be no turning back a new Liberal Party will have to rise from the ashes. Credlin Jones and Co will be discredited as relics of the past.

Bazza the trend on Sky News after dark is to employ more and more right wing nut jobs including Craig Kelly. Assuming that there is a significant win by Labor in May, Bazza and BC who do you think would be the best candidate to take over from Morrison.

An example of Morrison's skills or lack thereof more accurately is with respect to the current situation with respect to changes to the sex discrimination act. Apparently there had been an agreement between Cormann, Wong and the Greens had agreed to delay the changes until next year because they need more time to get the changes right. According to Shorten 10 minutes after that agreement Morrison comes out and says there should a conscious vote.

Morrison, like Turnbull before, is beholden to the RWNJs and until they are culled from the Parliament then the standard answer will continue to be no.

Josh Fredenburg will be the next leader in my view.

There should be absolutely no change at all in the Act , which was written up by Labor 30 yrs ago and has served perfectly well. Any impost would be a serious infringement on the one of the most important human rights recognised in international and common law, freedom of conscious and religion.

Good, McGowan should of done it ages ago , Western Power Poles and Wires should go and Fremantle Port should be leased out post haste, rather that than smashing people with rising cost of living.
