You and I are on the same page for this one MO. I remember watching Four Corners a few years ago which did an expose on Tattersalls in Victoria. It showed the highest concentration of pokies were in the lowest socio-economic areas i.e. where the people could least afford them. They are a scourge and we don't need that type of revenue.

a community based revenue source ? the most anti-social things you could find and are set up to take money off people, one of the dumbest ideas I have heard on here.

Pfft...get out of the 1950s, every other state has them....

All these wowser arguments carry bugger all weight, WA is a troglodyte state trapped in the past.

People can gamble at Crown ..where does that go??? not back to a wafl club or bowling club which are community based...

If that's what they want to do then its up to them, those areas also have the highest concentration of smokers and drinkers as well, anyway a bus drive is all it takes to get from Armo to Crown, it would be better to have a few set up in Perth Footy Club at least the money goes back to something community based..

We don't want that kind of revenue?? Clubs WA have been crying out for them for decades. Why Should crown get a massive free kick?

The only basis we should continue to not have them here is if every other state gets the revenue INCLUDED in the GST calculations, at the moment we don't,,,instead we rip ourselves off and our clubs in some sort of mindless righteous 1950s mind set..fark me lets go back to roster petrol stations .. bring em on I say.

good for you Bazza, you want to destroy communities and families which is what pokies do then good luck to you.
the evidence is out there, all the AFL clubs are getting rid of them as they know the harm they do outweighs the profits..
couldnt care less about Crown, disgusting place that doesnt get my money and a place that has ruined many lives..

Yep...we'll have to agree to disagree on pokies but I'm with you all the way in that pokie revenue should be included in the GST carve up. In fact, why isn't all state based revenue taken into account when applying HFE to the GST calculation?

Baz the pokies are programmed to pay back 93% of the money they received over a 1 month cycle. All of Aust apart from our Crown. They do that to cheque the machines and link up jackpots .
Crown Perth works on a 12 month cycle probably because they have a monopoly over here.

Yep, its a joke, there should be a Royal Commission into why Crown has been allowed to preserve its monopoly at the expense of WA Clubs , while they rake in Billions , WP goes into administration.

We are just ripping ourselves off, the other states aren't as dumb as us.

Its Ok for Subi , if all the other clubs get access to pokies, Subi should be ruled out , Im sure you'd agree.

In your analogy that would be Subi's choice not to have pokies just like it's WA's....and given the insidious nature of pokies I can't see why the revenue is not included in GST calculations to dis-incentivise those states who are intent on having them. I also note that quite a few of the footy clubs in Melbourne are getting rid of them for social responsibility reasons including Collingwood. I wonder what that is telling us?
