. It's becoming more Asian and less European

Modern Australia has been built on immigration, and the latest census confirms this, finding that almost half (49%) of all Australians were born overseas or had at least one parent born abroad.

But fewer of those arriving in Australia are coming from Europe - once the dominant source of migrants for a country that restricted immigration until the 1970s under the "White Australia" policy.

The 2016 census found that 40% of the overseas-born population were born in Asia, marking the first time more people have come from there than Europe.

In 2001, just 24% of those born overseas came from Asia.

In comparison, the proportion born in Europe decreased from 52% in 2001 to 34% in 2016.

Bazz in the end the census was pretty solid after all the scare tactics and miss-information. I listened to an ABS boffin on radio the day the numbers were released and they advised the return rate of forms was a tick over 96% which apparently is in line with past census, so the figures you and others quote are on the money.

That being said I don't have a particular problem with Asian migrants who in the vast majority of cases come over here and work their arses off, start small businesses and employ people who pay taxes, they mostly live quiet lives but also allow their customs and cuisines to compliment and add to our traditions. Most find the idea of welfare quite abhorrent as they have a strong cultural work ethic. The real elephant in the room are middle eastern migrants/reffo's many who see Australia as a real soft touch regarding welfare and benefits. Many are more interested in changing things to the way they were in the basket case countries they claim to be escaping from. One only has to look at the British experience and how the words of Enoch Powell have come home to roost. He was denigrated and became a pariah when he stated that unfettered Pakistani and other middle eastern immigration would cause massive social change and violence in British society.

Make no mistake Asians know how to play the Centerlink systems very well probably better than most.

The real Elephant in the room to me is Chinese influence and power in this country, while you are right about the Arab/African problems most of them are to dumb to be influential apart from crime. btw the Indian intake also includes a very large proportion of Islamic Indians.

Baz I was listening to a programme on BBC radio.Rasberry PC in Britain's largest selling PC.About 15 years ago they moved the production to China as everyone does these days.
A Welsh company approached Raspberry PC and said with highly automated production lines they can make the PC cheaper than in China. Each PC only has 26 minutes manual man labour.Companys like Apple are watching this closely ie Americas/Donald Trump.
They are also saying the developed country's are using the Climate Change thing to say the cost of transport on imported goods. This new trend might put China back in its box.
