TBH, as terrible as this is, I think it is just the tip of the ice berg as far as the future of Europe goes, things are going to get a lot worse as the decades roll on, expect more attacks, instability and more no go zones. Demographics have changed so much there that it will just become an extension of the Middle East and Africa.

Polands PM came out today and told European leaders to pull their heads out of their collective arses.

Wen to Poland last year and it was a really enjoyable place , felt safe the whole time, which was completely different to how I felt in France.

It is a pity the British and Americans made the Italians leave Libya in 1951.

gtr: that is very true about the Eastern Europeans, the EU is one big extortion scheme -- still they have to learn that there future is outside of the EU if they want to avoid third world immigration. It wans the Polish whom saved Vienna from the Turkish in 1683.

grassy: your right, on the whole, the islamic world fears the Russians; apparentlly, back in the days of the revolution in Iran, they debatted whether to attack Russia or America as both countries representted materialist ideologies which they hatted. The Russians had just killed 50,000 people during a bombing raid in Afghanistan. Unsuprisinglly, the Iranians took the easy option and attacked the American embassy.

I can sort of see what you mean with the Italians and Libya but t.b.h. their record of colonial administration is pretty woeful, Somalia and Abysinia where shambles.

And they would of never held on anyway - The French got the boot from Algeria despite huge military expenditure and 1 Million White French living there.

Baz: your right, I was just being a narky bugger. The Fascists managed to conquer Libya after the First World War, but only by being brutal in the extreme. Following on, they established an agricultural policy of about 100,000 Italian farmers, whom were not kicked out until the King was overthrown in 1969. I know someone whom has taught in the old Italian East Afica, and to be honest, she made it clear that, the only development was of Italian origin.

The irony of the Algerian war was that the French had won it: all of the FLN leaders were caught and the 'Morice Line', an electrofied fence with automatic artillery fire support defended the border with Tunisia and Morocco. De Gaulle left because of international pressure -- even though Australia's ambassador in the UN worked very hard to support France -- the pressure coming mostly from the third world and the yanks and because he hatted the pieds noirs, whom sided with Petain during the Second World War. Today, the white Algerians live mostly in southern France, and, although generally right-wing, during Mitterand's time as President, they votted Socialist, as Miterrand had sent the army into Algeria in 1956 whwn he was the Hpme Secretary.

Algerians were launching a pretty vicious mainland terror campaign in France as well which ended up putting a lot of pressure to bail out.

If you compare British Somaliland to Italian Somalia it was chalk and cheese.

yes, but so was the OSS in France and French Algeria. In other words, it was becoming a Franco-French civil war. The actual military presence of the FLN was negligible. Remember had the army not stayed loyal to De Gaulle when the white Algerians rebelled it would have truned out differentlly.
