Do I want him!! No not at all. Yes he can play , but will he give his all and will it be wise decision by the club. We can't afford to have more screw ups like Sylvia and Simpson.
But he comes he comes. If he knuckles down and does his job, keeps his nose clean, then good luck to him. A big ask for him though.
Back home... I think he was a troubled boy before he went to the GCS. So coming back into that environment may not help him.

Go back and watch our two finals this year lack of goal scoring and xfactor was Freo's downfall Harley brings both, as for his behaviour that famous photo in the herald sun was two years ago he's nowhere near the Garlett bracket, and the Hawks still picked him up.

The Hawks took a chance and Garlett stuffed up on there watch, does anyone even remember anymore.

Dont think anyone denies his ability at all. Comparing hawks to freo is a bot of a stretch, hawthorn have a strong culture with their players/leadership, i think its one area that Freo lack at the moment. We also dont know if Harley had indescretions that never made it to the media. His mother wanted him away from WA. As i say he is a very talented player, there is a reason just about every club passed on him. I wish ross and freo well and hope it works out for em

If Hawthorn have such a strong culture why couldn't they straighten out Garlett? And yet Freo changed Walters career around, Garlett living with Hodge really worked well.

I didnt day it was perfect PN. Hawks culture has resluted in the last 3 flags. Yes they failed with Gartlett ( he was a second round pick, despite his talent unlike Bennell i suspect). Freo failed with Simpson and Silvia within 2 years. Hawthorn can "afford" a few hiccups i suspect. With Freos suspect trading since its inception, they will be under the spotlight more i reckon

If my memory serves me correct your avatar similar at one time. Pot kettle black, Terror ? The stress of playing WAFL/work, retired, then mid season returned IIRC

I am not sure how to work this one out. Is there something that the club is hiding, or is he just not that good!!!

Anchor if Tropiano was on Freo's list I reckon he wouldn't be a walk up start and he won the Sandover!.....Menagola was on Freo's list for 2 - 3 years and he couldn't get a game, yet he killed in the WAFL this year.....

Wasn't Ballard kept back in the WAFL because Freo wanted him to work on certain area's of his game?.....looks like he couldn't or didn't.....that's life in the AFL fast lane I guess....who was that Freo player who like Ballard picked up big stats in the WAFL, couldn't get a game for Freo and went to Melbourne to rekindle his career?....and still hasn't fired a shot!.....

think some folk here think the WAFL is stronger/better than it really is....Ballard like Aaron Black,Tropiano, ROB, Ames,Notte, Nelson etc are all "Clayton' champs.....so close yet so far.....nothing wrong with that, just how it is I guess.

I assume the ex Freo/Melbourne player you speak of is Viv Michie Freeze.
Freeze you might not rate the WAFL standard from your lofty Canterbury perch but you do have to take into account it is the Premier football competition outside the AFL with us handing the SANFL a hiding this year on top of recent wins vs the VFL & NEAFL, not forgetting too there are really only 5 semi major comps that play our great game!

Not sure if this is 100% on money but heard Ballard offered rookie again and passed on it, which i think is fair enough, if Freo were serious about him then he should have played Round 23 in 21 not an Emergency and late in as Sub.

Hope he gets picked up somewhere, just at Freo he is trying for a position they have too many similars, if he was a key Forward he is a shoe in.

Yeah Michie was the fella....no lofty perches here in NZ mate, like I said BH, the WAFL is what it is, just compared to years gone by pre Eagles the WAFL was on par with the VFL, sadly the VFL has moved on into the AFL whilst the WAFL standard wise has deteriorated TBH......all those players I mentioned are still good players in their own right and the competition they are in....their WAFL success shouldn't automatically be a given for AFL success.....no biggie really just my opinion....take it or leave it....don't really care either way ;)

Yes and luckily we live in a country where everyone is entitled to their own opinion freeze ...just on the standards no doubt it is not at the levels of the late 70's early 80s where the WAFL was every bit the same as the VFL but as one who has observed every week from those days it has really picked up over the last 10 years compared to the previous 10 from when Freo were formed in 1995 and then that scum from Mandurah were forced upon us where their was a rather large drop off in the standard!
