In part

he Joondalup City Council voted to commit funding towards the upgrade of facilities at Arena Joondalup at its meeting held on Tuesday August 20.
The Council has agreed to the provision of a total of $4 million towards the Arena Joondalup project. In the 2013-14 financial year the City will allocate $1 million from the Strategic Asset Management Reserve with the balance of funding to be provided, as needed, subject to conditions set out by the City.
The upgrade will see the construction of new Club rooms and Administration facilities for the West Perth Football Club, additional indoor courts and supporting infrastructure that will house the Wanneroo Basketball Association, additional courts for the Joondalup Netball Association and additional playing surfaces for the Joondalup Brothers Rugby Union Club.
The Council resolution stated that conditions of funding include:
• Representatives from the City on the Arena project team;
• Lease arrangements between the Arena operators, VenuesWest, and both the West Perth Football Club and Wanneroo Basketball Association that are satisfactory to the City; and
• A preference for the West Perth Football Club and the Wanneroo Basketball Association to adopt a trading name that reflects their locality.
The City’s contribution is in addition to the $16 million of funding committed to the Arena Joondalup project by the State Government prior to the March 2013 election.
Mayor Pickard said it was imperative that Council supported sporting organizations that helped promote sport, recreation and healthy lifestyle opportunities for the community.
“The Clubs that will directly benefit from an upgrade to the Arena have significant membership bases and in some cases are the largest Clubs within their chosen sport in Western Australia,” he said.
“West Perth Football Club is one of the biggest clubs in the West Australian Football League and has been a massive part of Joondalup since they moved to the Arena in 1994.”
“They have outgrown their current facilities and this project will provide an AFL centre of excellence in the northern corridor as well as a viable venue for AFL pre-season and practice matches.”
Mayor Pickard also said that while funding would not be conditional on a name change for West Perth and the Wanneroo Basketball Association, it is his preference to see both organisations engage with its members regarding this issue.
West Perth President, Brett Raponi, said that he was very happy with the process and the outcome. “The City and the Mayor, in particular, have been strong supporters and advocates for our Football Club. I am delighted with the decision by Council that not only recognizes but understands the strong ties that still exist at West Perth. The success of this club over 129 years dictates that our name remains a strong identity within the sporting landscape across Australia.

and so they should never change from West Perth.
Sure, trade as Joondalup Falcons or WPJ Falcons, but they should never lose West Perth as a game name. Tradition should always count for something in this life. .

Right mate.. If they dropped the West Perth It would be very lonely at games at Arena Joondalup.
Wonder if they would accept North Perth as it is North of Perth.
Or South Geraldton? Nah only joking (gotta say that otherwise someone might believe it) :)

As stated in another topic we are already the Joondalup Falcons trading as West Perth football club.

Is the Federal Funding for this programme available no matter which party/parties wins on Saturday?

Also, will this mean that there will be toilets available on the outer side of the ground?

It appears that West Perth cannot have its cake and eat it too! Well maybe for the next three years anyway.

At a recent council meeting in Joondalup it was voted that the Joondalup city council will end its financial sponsorship package with west perth (currently worth 40 grand p/a) unless the club changes its name to the Joondalup Falcons!

The current sponsorship deal was unanimously approved from 2014-16 after west perth initially asked for 50 grand but had to settle with the 40.

The club now faces a couple of challenges. One to keep a good relationship with the Joondalup city council where it has called home since 1994 and appease any membership who it will need to go to a referendum to get the name changed!

Thoughts?

seems to be a never ending saga of speculation down there. its obvious the council want WP to change their name soon. I think raponi will move out before they do that. maybe the WACA or Lathlain could come back into the fold?
Imagine the flood of sentimentality if they re-loaded back at Leederville:ohmy:

Also at the AGM, NAB cup, V.W has given the ok for all the takings on the day will go to the WPFC, depending on the crowd the club has a potential of 20 to 40 gs. VW has given permission for the WPFC to use outside caterers, more money in the coffers and two commercial units under the new clubrooms have been signed & sealed with businesses compatible to sport. A function centre is also a part of the clubrooms for corporate / weddings etc. WP had the highest crowd attendances. Some interesting expense's, 35gs for strapping and something like 15gs for ice.

Also it was Aks management who contacted a WP official with a proposal. The club accepted the proposal so AK will play for WP. AK is not on big money.

No way WP will be leaving Arena in the near future. Especially given the club will finally have its own facilities from the start of 2016.
As for the council, the vote on ending the funding in three years only carried 7-4, whereas the vote to actually give WP funding was unanimous. As a result, WP only has to change the minds of two councillors over the course of the three years. Not to mention the fact that the make-up of the council could be completely different in three years' time...
